- Two countrys nickels are changed

- The P-40 and C-46 are built near their border.
2The Year is 1942 and the USs involvement in WWII
isnow hot heavy after Pearl Harbor
- Part way through the year the US changes the
composition of the nickel to an alloy that
contains silver (35) to free up the nickel for
production of SS and tank armor. With this new
alloy a P mint mark shows up for the first
time. The mint marks position also changed.
- Also part way through the year Canada pulls their
nickel out of production and it was close to 100
nickel to use the nickel for the same reasons.
The new alloy for the Canadian 5 cent piece is
called TOMBAC a brass alloy and is mostly copper.

6Other changes in US 1940s money
- In 1943 copper was not used for the penny.
Instead zinc plated steel planchets were used. - Invasion currency was printed for Hawaii and
North Africa. - Experimental paper was trialed
