Title: Parental aid revision meeting
1Parental aid revision meeting
- How to help your little darling!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
2When are the exams?
- If your child has not bought a revision book from
CGP please get them too as in my opinion they are
fabulous for preparing them for the exam! - Of Mice and Men ISBN 1841461148
- Other Cultures Poetry ISBN 1841466964
- Literature Poetry ISBN 184146354X
3How to help!
- Some things parents have noted have helped in the
past! - Start revision timetable now of half an hour to
an hour a night. - Get your child to work downstairs where you can
see them. - Reward them when they have completed a week of
revision. - Encourage active note-making as revision is not
simply re-reading a book! - Buy them an alarm clock for all those timed
essays!
4Twilight sessions
- Please turn to page 3
- These have been specifically designed to meet the
needs of the pupils - They must attend every Tuesday or their place
will go to another student! It is very, very
popular especially after last years results! - The dates of these sessions are at the back of
your pack so please can you also relay details of
this to your child.

ask!)Please turn to page 7
7What is a JLO BURGER?
- This is where your child will use the PEE to
fully explain the meaning behind the language in
the quote they have selected - It is important every child knows how to do the
JLO Burger as all essays are made up of an
introduction, a series of these burgers and then
a conclusion - (Please now turn to page 8 of your pack)
8An example of a bad J Lo burger(Page 8) How does
the poet show her feelings for her new love?
The sun in this poem is used as a metaphor here
to represent how the woman is feeling about her
new love
It shines on me lighting my whole face with its
magnificent beauty.
- The metaphor about it shows how she feels about
her love. - Why is this such a bad explanation?
- Doesnt explain what poet feels.
- Doesnt answer question.
- Doesnt explain effect of language
- Uses word it instead of explaining what
9What to look out for
- Never use it.
- Never say this shows what ..feels.
- Always relate it back to the question
- Always explain effect of language
10Now its your turn!!
- Time to be a pupil!
- Have a go at writing a good response using the
CELL technique to the same quote! - You have 6 minutes! There are prizes for the
best 2! Please work in pairs!
11Improving it using the CELL technique! Please
turn to page 9
The sun in this poem is used to represent how the
woman is feeling about her new love
It shines on me lighting my whole face with its
magnificent beauty.
Lang
The metaphor about sun shows how the woman feels
so happy about her new love. The fact that she
can feel the sun on her face and describes it as
lighting it up reflects how this new love has
lit up her whole life. Also, in describing it as
magnificent beauty this metaphor highlights how
she feels that his love is truly amazing and
beautiful. It sums up how she feels touched and
excited by this new love which has awoken
feelings of beauty and splendour within
her. AVOID USE OF WORD IT AVOID SHOWS POETS
