FIRST, SOME KEY IDEAS
  • Libraries and librarians just not about books.
  • Convergence of traditional library, gallery,
    museum (digital technology)
  • Increased recognition of cultural activity in the
    life of communities and access to information
    new role falling to librarians
  • Librarians are now facilitators of events and
    exhibitions
  • The librarian can (and does) partner other arts
    and cultural workers to access grants and to
    facilitate arts and cultural outcomes for
    individuals and the community

    CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN QUEENSLAND.
  • ITS MISSION IS TO BUILD AND ENRICH QUEENSLANDS
    ARTS AND CULTURAL LIFE.
  • IN 2001 ARTS QUEENSLAND WILL INTRODUCE A NEW
    FUNDING FRAMEWORK FOR QUEENSLANDS ARTS AND
    CULTURAL COMMUNITY.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR FUNDING?
  • Artists, arts workers or cultural workers working
    professionally in Queensland.
  • Incorporated organisations working professionally
    in Queensland.
  • Collectives, such as a community group or a group
    of professional artists that is not incorporated.

WHO CANT APPLY?
  • Individuals not Australian citizens or without
    permanent resident status.
  • Individuals and organisations with overdue
    acquittals for previous grants.
  • Students enrolled in undergraduate arts or museum
    related study.
  • Individuals seeking support for research and
    studio work for academic assessment.
  • Permanent employees of the following agencies
    until six months after they cease employment with
    the agency (Arts Queensland Queensland Art
    Gallery State Library of Queensland Queensland
    Museum Queensland Theatre Company Queensland
    Performing Arts Trust)
  • Individuals who have lived outside Queensland
    during the last 12 months, or organisations based
    outside Queensland.
  • Individuals or organisations that have previously
    received funding from Arts Queensland. However,
    applications may be considered if it can be shown
    that the project will lead to further
    professional or industry development.
  • Individuals or organisations whose project has
    started before Arts Queensland announces the
    funding decisions. However, applications for
    funding will be considered for new and separate
    stages of existing projects

ACTIVITIES NOT FUNDED BY ARTS QUEENSLAND
  • Amateur activities
  • Funding raising events or charities.
  • Projects in which arts and cultural workers will
    be paid less than award/industry rates.
  • Academic research and academic coursework.
  • Artistic competitions.
  • Projects that involve Aboriginal or Torres Strait
    Islander communities or require access to sacred
    or secret sites, where there the support of the
    community elders or traditional custodians of the
    site is not adequately demonstrated.
  • Projects dealing with cultural diversity where
    thorough understanding of relevant cultural
    issues and consultation with recognised cultural
    elders is not adequately demonstrated.
  • Projects that involve young people where thorough
    understanding of the relevant youth issues and
    the support of young people is not adequately
  • demonstrated.
  • Activities that are the exclusive responsibility
    of other funding bodies. However, you may apply
    for funding assistance for different stages or
    components of a project from more than one
    source. Contact Arts Queensland for advice.
