ACCELERATED READER PROVIDES READING
SUPPORT Interview with Mrs. Ann Rogers, Media
Specialist Mrs. Rogers explained that students
choose their own AR book on their reading level
and read them at their own pace. Students take
reading practice quizzes on the computer and
receive points for achieving a percentage of
correct answers. Students and teachers get
immediate, individualized feedback from a TOPS
report generated by the computer program that is
used to direct the students reading and help
teachers set attainable goals.

CIS SUPPORT HELPS BUILD READING
FLUENCY Communities in Schools supports the
Accelerated Reader program at Swainsboro
Elementary School by providing funds to increase
the number of books available for many different
reading levels. Because of this, reading fluency
has increased for all levels at Swainsboro
Elementary School. According to Sara Sutton, SES
student, AR has helped me understand more words
and read them faster, too.

TOPS Report Provides Feedback According to Sara
Sutton, SES student, I get to know what I made
right after taking a test. I also get to know
what questions I missed and get the right
answers. This helps me with my comprehension
skills. Teachers read the TOPS report to see
how well students are doing on their reading
skills. They are given the average reading level
of the student, the average percent of correct
answers, and the number of points. Teachers set
goals for students using these reports. A goal
party is held every grading period for students
who reach their goal.
SES student, Sara Sutton, receives instant
feedback from taking her AR test on the computer.
