Title: A Cell and a Football Team

1
A Cell and a Football Team
  • By Browning Becherer

2
The First Half
  • The Animal Cell

3
The Animal Cell
  • The cell is what makes every living thing. Such
as plants, people, and animals. Since
scientifically we are animals, we have animal
cells. The animal cell has 10 parts, but I will
only cover the main 5 in this presentation.

4
The Nucleus
  • The Nucleus
  • The Nucleus is like the brain of the cell it
tells each part (or team member) what to do. It
is the command center of the cell. It controls
all of the cells activities and calls all the
    shots.
  • The Head Coach
  • The Head Coach of a football team has a big
responsibility. It has to call all the plays and
has to tell each player who watch, who to hit and
is basically the command center of a football
    team.

The Cytoplasm
  • The Cytoplasm
  • The Cytoplasm is a jellylike substance found
almost anywhere in the cell. Chemical reactions
take place in the Cytoplasm. You could say it is
like the team trainer because it holds everything
on top of it. The mitochondria has the fuel, but
it is on top of the Cytoplasm. Sort of how the
team trainer houses all the medical equipment and
    Gatorade
  • The Team Trainer
  • The Team Trainer is basically the team medic.
The trainer takes care of injuries and if someone
gets sick, it is the trainers job. They supply
the Gatorade (energy) to the players and the
coaches and they make sure the team is healthy
and ready to play on Sunday. The team trainer
also houses all the stuff needed to make sure the
team can communicate, heal battle wounds, and
    various other things.

The Cell Membrane
  • The Cell Membrane
  • The Membrane is around the outside of an
animal cell, and is the boundary. It provides
some support and controls movement. It provides
some protection to the cell as well. This is the
    offensive line of a cell.
  • The Offensive Line
  • The Offensive Lines job is to protect their
quarterback, running back, and anybody else who
will get the ball an that play. If they dont,
their backs will get killed. Sort of like if a
cell didnt have a Membrane, then the organelles
    would get damaged.

The Golgi Bodies
  • Golgi Bodies
  • These are found in the cytoplasm and they
store and release chemicals. Like if they dont
need a chemical anymore, it will release it. This
is a lot like the GM of a football team.
  • The General Manager
  • The GM of a football team deals with their
draft picks, trades, who to keep and who to get
rid of. If they didnt, then there would be too
many players and coaches on the team. And plus
when they dont need a player, they need a way to
    get rid of him.

The Ribosomes
  • The Ribosomes
  • These are found throughout the cell and they
produce protein for the cell. Without the protein
the cell would not be able survive. Which is why
an entire football team is the Ribosome of an
    organization.
  • The Team
  • One of the many secrets to winning and
producing the protein, is something teamwork.
Without teamwork, the team would fall apart and
lose more games than the organization and fan
base would want. If the cell didnt have teamwork
it would fall apart as well.

The Second Half
  • A Plant Cell

17
The Plant Cell
  • The Plant Cell is different from the Animal Cell
in a few ways. First off, it maintains a straight
and rigid shape, unlike that of an animal cell
which is more of a circle shape. Next, the plant
cell has a Cell Wall, something that the Animal
Cell lacks. It also has chloroplasts which give
it its green color. Instead of a football team
this time, I am going to present this by
    comparing it to football equipment.

18
The Cell Wall
  • The Cell Wall
  • The Cell Wall protects the cell and gives support
and shape to it. This is sort of like a helmet
and a neck pad because it protects the cell from
    getting damaged and from dying.
  • The Helmet and Neck Pad
  • The helmet protects your head from serious
injury, some injuries are career- ending and
sometimes even life threatening. The neck pad
protects your spinal cord from being seriously
damaged and it also keeps you from being
    paralyzed.

The Chloroplasts
  • The Chloroplasts
  • These are what give the plant its color. In an
animals body we have something called pigments,
but for a plant, this is what they have. Without
these the plants would be colorless, or would
    look like something else.
  • The Jerseys
  • A jersey can sometimes be a players pride, just
like you see in a clip of the movie, We Are
Marshall, if you disrespect your jersey, the you
are disrespecting your teams colors or their
    Chloroplasts.

The Nucleus
  • The Nucleus
  • This is the brain, or command center of a cell
that tells each organelle what to do and where to
be. This is like the coaches and some players
    headsets.
  • The Headset
  • The headset lets the player and the coach
communicate wirelessly. Not every player has one
in there helmet, but quarterbacks such as, Peyton
Manning and Tom Brady have them in the helmet so
there coach can send in plays and other thing.
The people in the teams both can also communicate
with the coach and players with their headsets.
The headsets were only recently wireless, but I
think it helps out a lot that there wireless.

Cytoplasm
  • The Cytoplasm
  • This is sort of like jelly, and it holds the
cell together. The cytoplasm is where the
chemical reactions in the cell take place. You
could say that it is like the locker room because
it holds most everything the team will need for
    that Sunday or for practice.
  • The Locker Room
  • The Locker Room is where all of the stuff
the may need or needs is held. The coaches
office is in or around there, the players
equipment is in there, the trainers first aid
    kits and sports drinks.

25

26
The Golgi Bodies
  • The Golgi Bodies
  • The Golgi bodies are in the Cytoplasm and
they store and release chemicals inside the cell.
This is why they are like the locker each team
member has. When he needs some piece of
equipment, he can go get it. When he doesnt need
it, he can store it in the locker.
  • The Lockers
  • These are for your football equipment when
your not using it, or you just dont need it. You
can store your chemicals in it and you can
release your chemicals when you need it.

The Nuclear Membrane
  • The N. Membrane
  • This part of the cell helps to protect the
Nucleus, but it also can let stuff pass between
the Nucleus and the rest of the cell. It is also
what separates the Nucleus from the rest of the
    cell.
  • The Shoulder Pads
  • The Shoulder Pads protect one of the most vital
sources to your survival. The spine. You attach
the neck pad to the shoulder pads for even more
protection. Without shoulder pads a spine, back,
shoulder, chest, or any other kind of injury is
more likely. If your spinal cord got really
damaged, then you might get paralyzed and your
career might even be over if it is permanent
    paralysis.
