7
Dramatic Culture Change
  • The MEL professional development process is
unlike any other an educator has experienced.
  • The MEL is VOLUNTARY.
  • It is not an entitlement.
  • Prescriptive procedures, eligibility criteria and
    timeframes are stringently applied.
  • Not all educators will pursue the MEL and not all
    educators are master educators.
  • Many candidates will not attain mastery.

8
Dramatic Culture Change
  • The WMEAP is an ASSESSMENT of the quality of the
candidates demonstration of mastery of all the
Wisconsin Standards is her/his license field of
    practice.
  • It is a 2 step process of application approval
    and portfolio assessment.
  • It requires 1-2 years to complete.
  • It requires multiple portfolio entries of work
samples, videotapes, and analyses and reflections
of the educators practice and pupil learning.

9
Dramatic Culture Change
  • The portfolio represents the candidates most
personal involvement in the critical roles of the
    license field.
  • The process enhances the candidates professional
    performance.
  • The process is the most profound learning
experience the educator will have had in
    education.
  • The portfolio development requires much time,
    commitment and rigor.
