How to help someone who is having an asthma
episode

• On Saturday you are at the park with Troy playing
  basketball. You notice that Troy seems slower and
  more winded. He mentions that his chest hurts and
  you can hear him wheezing. You ask him if he is
  okay, he says he is fine. As he finishes speaking
  he starts to cough really hard. You have seen him
  use a puffer in the past
• WHAT SHOULD YOU DO

How can you help Troy?

• Recognize that he is having an asthma episode
• Stay clam and reassure him.
• Have him sit up and do some deep breathing
• Breath slowly in through the nose and slowly out
  through pursed lips)
• Offer a glass of warm water
• Have them raise their arms and rest them away
  from their chest
• Ask him if he has his quick relief inhaler.
• If at any point you are uncomfortable call 9-1-1
