3Three Aspects of Prophecy
- 1. Gift of Christ to the Church Eph. 410-13
- 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended
higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the
whole universe.) 11 It was he who gave some to be
apostles, some to be prophets, some to be
evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
12 to prepare God's people for works of service,
so that the body of Christ may be built up 13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the
knowledge of the Son of God and become mature,
attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ.
42. Gift of God to the individual
- Romans 125-8
- 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and
each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have
different gifts, according to the grace given us.
If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in
proportion to his faith. 7 If it is serving, let
him serve if it is teaching, let him teach 8 if
it is encouraging, let him encourage if it is
contributing to the needs of others, let him give
generously if it is leadership, let him govern
diligently if it is showing mercy, let him do it
cheerfully.
53. Gift of the Holy Spirit
- 1 Cor. 127 Now to each one the manifestation of
the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one
there is given through the Spirit the message of
wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by
means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by
the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by
that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers,
to another prophecy, to another distinguishing
between spirits, to another speaking in different
kinds of tongues, and to still another the
interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the
work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives
them to each one, just as he determines.
6God Speaks to Man 2 Peter 119- 21
- 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more
certain, and you will do well to pay attention to
it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until
the day dawns and the morning star rises in your
hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no
prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's
own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its
origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God
as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
7 Genesis 3 14-17
- ¼ of the Bible was prophecy when it was written.
- 14 So the LORD God said to the serpent,
"Because you have done this, "Cursed are
you above all the livestock and all the
wild animals! You will crawl on your
belly and you will eat dust all
the days of your life. - 15 And I will put enmity between you and
the woman, and between your offspring
and hers he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel." - 16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly
increase your pains in childbearing with
pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband, and
he will rule over you."
8 17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to
your wife and ate from the tree about which I
commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life. 18 It will produce
thorns and thistles for you, and you will
eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of
your brow you will eat your food
until you return to the ground, since
from it you were taken for dust you are
and to dust you will return."
9Prophecy Concerning Jesus
10Fulfilled Prophecy Place of Birth
- 2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are
small among the clans of Judah, out of you will
come for me one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old, from ancient
times. "
- 1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east
came to Jerusalem.
11Born of a Virgin
- Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign
The virgin will be with child and will give birth
to a son, and will call him Immanuel (God with
us).
- This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came
about His mother Mary was pledged to be married
to Joseph, but before they came together, she was
found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
12Slaughter of Infants
- This is what the LORD says "A voice is heard in
Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel
weeping for her children and refusing to be
comforted, because her children are no more."
- 13When they had gone, an angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said,
"take the child and his mother and escape to
Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is
going to search for the child to kill him." 14 So
he got up, took the child and his mother during
the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed
until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled
what the Lord had said through the prophet "Out
of Egypt I called my son. 16 When Herod realized
that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was
furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys
in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years
old and under, in accordance with the time he had
learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said
through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled 18
"A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and
great mourning, Rachel weeping for her
children and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more."
13Escape to Egypt
- "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of
Egypt I called my son.
- 13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream.
14Ministry in Galilee
- Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for
those who were in distress. In the past he
humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of
Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee
of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the
Jordan- 2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light on those living
in the land of the shadow of death a
light has dawned.
- 12When Jesus heard that John had been put in
prison, he returned to Galilee. 13Leaving
Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which
was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and
Naphtali 14 to fulfill what was said through the
prophet Isaiah 15 "Land of Zebulun and land of
Naphtali, the way to the sea, along the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles 16 the people living in
darkness have seen a great light on those
living in the land of the shadow of death a light
has dawned."

16Early Ministry of Jesus
17Priest like Melchizidek
- The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind
"You are a priest forever, in the order of
Melchizedek." - 5 The Lord is at your right hand he
will crush kings on the day of his wrath. - 6 He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead
and crushing the rulers of the whole
earth.
- God did this so that, by two unchangeable things
in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who
have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us
may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope
as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It
enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20
where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on
our behalf. He has become a high priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.
18Triumphal Entry
- Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your
king comes to you, righteous and having
salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
- The next day the great crowd that had come for
the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to
Jerusalem. 13They took palm branches and went out
to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is
he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
"Blessed is the King of Israel!" 14 Jesus
found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is
written, 15"Do not be afraid, O Daughter of
Zion see, your king is coming, seated on
a donkey's colt."
19Betrayed by a friend
- Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who
shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against
me.
- Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to
the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.
20False Accusations
- Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for
false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out
violence.
- 59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were
looking for false evidence against Jesus so that
they could put him to death. 60 But they did
not find any, though many false witnesses came
forward.
21Struck and Spit on
- I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks
to those who pulled out my beard I did not hide
my face from mocking and spitting.
- 63 The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we
need any more witnesses?" he asked. - 64 "You have heard the blasphemy. What do you
think?" They all condemned him as worthy of
death. 65 Then some began to spit at him they
blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and
said, "Prophesy!" And the guards took him and
beat him.
22Hands and feet pierced
- Dogs have surrounded me a band of evil
men has encircled me, they have pierced
my hands and my feet.
- 26A week later his disciples were in the house
again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors
were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and
said, "Peace be with you!" 27Then he said to
Thomas, "Put your finger here see my hands.
Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop
doubting and believe." - 28Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
23Given gall and vinegar
- 21 They put gall in my food and gave me
vinegar for - my thirst.
- Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so
that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus
said, "I am thirsty." 29 A jar of wine vinegar
was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the
sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted
it to Jesus' lips. 30 When he had received the
drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that,
he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

31The Question
- With so many prophecies of the events around the
coming of Our Lord the first time, why would
anyone doubt the events around His second coming?
- John 142-3 In my Father's house are many rooms
if it were not so, I would have told you. I am
going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if
I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
back and take you to be with me that you also may
be where I am. - Does anyone want to join me in this journey?
32Bible Prophecy of Coming Events
- 2 Peter 21-3 False Teachers
- 1 But there were also false prophets among the
people, just as there will be false teachers
among you. They will secretly introduce
destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign
Lord who bought thembringing swift destruction
on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful
ways and will bring the way of truth into
disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will
exploit you with stories they have made up. Their
condemnation has long been hanging over them, and
their destruction has not been sleeping.
33Scoffers will Come
- 2 Peter 33 First of all, you must understand
that in the last days scoffers will come,
scoffing and following their own evil desires.
4They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he
promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything
goes on as it has since the beginning of
creation."
34Earth destroyed by Fire
- 2 Peter 37
- 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth
are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of
judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
35The day of the Lord will come like a thief.
- 2 Peter 310
- 10 But the day of the Lord will come as
unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will
pass away with a terrible noise, and the very
elements themselves will disappear in fire, and
the earth and everything on it will be found to
deserve judgment.
