working relationship, funding/resource, ME,

6Step into Sport programme in Dorset from school
to community sports club
- SIS programme has been running for some time
- Last two years have seen huge increases in
numbers of participants attending conference
(120) - Little involvement of governing bodies or local
sports clubs in any co-ordinated way - Poor retention of young people attending the
conference into community sports clubs - Change direction and focus of programme and
improve effectiveness

9Hockey Clive Nelson
- School-club links (only accredited clubs)
- Club accreditation
- Subsequent links to schools
- Only North Dorset with clubs at this stage.
10Athletics Trudi Carter
- Yr 2 county plan April/March
- Recently received if!
- Secondary school (Yr 6s)
- Priority Increased number of children receiving
quality coaching - Identify and develop new schemes that provide all
year round sessions - Priority club this year is WP Harriers AC
11Tennis Ian Wells
- Reorganisation and restructuring currently
underway in the LTA, about to hit county - 16 accrdited clubs across the county
- General priorities clubs, coaching and
competition (in clubs and schools) - Consolidation of 3 tennis charities into an
overarching tennis foundation - Schools will be a much higher priority than
currently in-service training for teachers,
training tennis leaders (14), - Age groups key stage 2 is the priority but
across all age groups - Facilities will be looked at as a priority (new
facilities) - Plan will change
12Volleyball Geoff Allen
- Strong on junior dev in parts of Dorset
(structured in Bournemouth/Poole) - Target 8-14 yrs, plus further education
- One Community coach and access to others
- Wide range of schools competitions
- Local development happens through the Wessex
Volleyball Club - Indoor/Beach
- Offer Volleysport, Level 1 etc.
- Priority is getting new young players,
particularly talented ones into programmes. - No county plan but local area plans (East
Dorset/Poole/Bournemouth) very little junior
development at present.
13Tabletennis Chris Brown
- No plan for Dorset yet, working on regional one
- Improving the club network vis-à-vis structure
- 3 accredited clubs Bournemouth, Christchurch and
Dorchester - Dual-use facilities
- Local coaches supporting teaches
- Age range (yr 6 at the lower end up to yr 9
competions up yr 9/10) - Leaders courses for 14/15 yrs of age supporting
local festivals..
14Rowing Rachel Woolridge
- 2 accredited clubs Christchurch and poole.
- Indoor rowing around the new competition
framework - Using concept 2 it can be done online
- Dorset Indoor Rowing competition next year
- Schools must have indoor rowing machines already
(though theyll help with getting them) - Teachers course coming up in september
- Junior leaders and 16 courses (enables coaching
of younger ages)
15Triathlon David Hooper
- Priorities 16 age group within clubs
- Accreditaion for clubs, which can be supported
- 2 clubs Zoom, Geronimos
- Regionally 9 increase in participation at ever
level - Try-a-tri days for schools (looking for
locations) - 3rd year of a 4th year plan
- Harry Wiltshire Talent coach for Triathlon in
schools
16Sailing Windsurfing Andy Hooper
- Dorset is split into two (Covers East Dorset)
- Pesscl initiative to link schools and clubs
- 2 OnBoard development officers (Tony Wood/Pipp
Wood) - 10 year plan (in year 3)
- Hoping links are made with PDMs
17Rugby Union Hamish Morton
- 4 Year Com Rugby Cycle (in year 3)
- This is a recruitment year with the World cup
- Priority is the 16 group
- Priority for schools is the under 13 age group
(increase of 5 affiliation target for this year) - More festivals, emerging schools, more
competitions across the county for all age groups.
18Cricket Keith Brewer
- Increased participation and quality of coaching
- Through 15 focus clubs, supported with resources
in facilities, coaches, and the Chance to Shine
programme (priority is under 10 11). Prefer to
work with them at this age. - If clubs dont deliver they may lose their status
depends on performance. List available - Annual plan up until the end of September (part
of a five year strategy).
19Football Gary Knight
- County plan (1 year) co-inciding with the end of
a 5 year strategy. - Priority is targeting North Dorset this year due
to gaps in the area. - Accredited clubs and links to schools
(maintaining and developing) - Skills coaches (66 nationally 4 in Dorset
sponsored by Tescos) working in schools and
accredited clubs.
20Swimming Barry Alldrick
- County plan exists but not well known.
- KS 2 for primary schools in East Dorset
- Links with clubs from schools
- Development days for swimming
- Inter-area competitions (water-polo)
- Water-polo for late arrivals to the sport
- Training courses
- Top-up swimming just been run (working to get all
target groups involved) - Working with local clubs to keep them going.
21Squash Matt Baker
- Year 3 of whole sport plan Yr1 of county plan
- Participation in sport including schools is a
priority - Free teacher training for Squash (offer of free
equipment to school) - Accredited clubs in Dorset (Weymouth, West Hants,
BSC, Two-Rivers Meet, Jersey) - Facilities (? Common to other sports and schools)
- 1 day per week development officer
22Badminton Sandy Jones
- All of Dorset
- Participation is life-long (including all the way
through school) - Badminton CSC employed full-time
- 2 Badminton Academy schools in Dorset
(Portchester Wey Valley). This year applying
for 4 more. This means comprehensive Badminton
plans introduced to families of schools leading
to community clubs. - 4 accredited clubs in Dorset (aiming for 12 at
the moment) - 5 year Badminton plan
- Big national competition linked through schools,
many courses (levels 1 2, teachers) - Free resources for school based trainees.
23Orienteering Celia Watkinson
- 2 clubs in Dorset (Wimborne accredited, Wessex
Bournemouth/Poole area working
towards/interested) - School club links
- Supporting Wessex
- Encourage junior participation and membership of
clubs - Priority of the Bristish Schools Orienteering
Championships (Yrs 5-13) in Bovington November
17th (encouraging schools to enter) - Young leader courses (JSLA bolt on) from
September two new teacher courses outside UKCC .
One day for all teachers (KS 2) and then an
additional day course for teachers who want to
bring Orienteering up to GCSE level.

- WSP annual workplan
- Target all age groups
- CSC aimed at secondary schools
- Working on school-club links
- Targets clearly set out
- Supporting the player pathway through talent
academies/centres. - West Dorset, North Dorset, Poole (academies)
- Teacher Netball SW High 5 resource from September
- Young organiser for 14-16 year olds (can be run
in school) - 4 CAPS clubs (Bournemouth, Poole, Canford,
Verwood) - Other clubs are working towards their CAPS
- New club set up in Ferndown from September.

- Multi-skill needs to be the focus up to an age
when sports are chosen - What resources do you have? Personnel that can be
worked with. Two way PDMs/NGBs - CSCs are only there for some sports, but what
about the rest of you? - Why just Christchurch for swimming?
- Many questions How can we work together?
- Build up clubs from an education perspective???
Club-links, inform and educate - In cricket clubs nominate 6 local schools to work
with. Linking within an existing network instead
of those already part of the county structure. - Kath Rudd - Thank you to everybody working with
Christchurch/Purbeck SSP. We just need to know
whats available. - Summary sheet on whats available. This is
provided above and to be filled in by PDMs. - Speed-dating partners swapping (information) Due

- Link into Extended schools Sport generally needs
to be more aware of opportunities - Club and coaches fund will become available by
end of year Triathlon x2 people in the SW. - Competition managers coming into Dorset sooner
rather than later with the 5 hour promise They
were scheduled to come in 2008/09. - Dale thanks to those whove come down to Weymouth
West Dorset, very useful today to find out
about accredited clubs they (PDMs) were not aware
of - Contact lists SSPs and NGBs We will produce a
full list of PDM/NGB and other contacts for
Dorset (Sept) - Local Authorities
- Requirement of smaller sports to promote and
advertise information Active Dorset will support
promotion and marketing of any events for a
sports body/club - School club links are still not fully known. How
to address this? Collect/collate from all sources
(SSPs/GBs/Clubs/Schools). Once compiled the list
can be shared to all. - QCA website Provides information on the new
school day/offer for young people. - Next meeting Monday the 10th of December from
10am to 12pm at Bournemouth University.
