What is Respite ?
  • Temporary relief break from a caregivers daily
    caregiving responsibilities.

How does a caregiver qualify for respite ?
  • Under the AoA regulations there are no income
    guidelines.
  • The care receiver must be 60 years of age or
older. A grandparent or other relative 60 years
of age or older who is raising a grandchild or
child 18 years of age or younger.
  • It is not limited to 24/7 care.
  • Caregivers are not required to live with the care
    receivers.

9
How does it work ? The Process
  • It begins with a call to OASIS to request an
    application.
  • DHS/ASD staff receives applications and starts
    initial qualifying process.
  • Coordinator conducts telephone interviews if
    needed.
  • Qualified applicants are approved.
  • Vouchers are issued and mailed to caregivers.
  • Caregivers use vouchers to hire a person of their
    choice.
  • Caregivers re-apply for vouchers.

10
Re-application Process
  • Caregivers are eligible to re-apply for
additional sets of vouchers after their account
balances have been cleared and the three month
    timeframe has expired.
  • After the re-app request is submitted, the
application is pulled, reviewed and approved for
    another set of vouchers.
