Title: The names Waindrop,
1 2Me!!
3And I am going to share the story of my amazing,
fantastic and interesting life with you.
4WATER CYCLE!
5These are two diagrams showing what happens to me
every so often
6I live in the Atlantic Ocean.

7I have lived here for all of my life, which is 4
million years. When I turned a million I had to
start helping with the family business. I think
now might be a good time to tell you that my
parents own a shop called The Costume Cupboard
and it sells different fancy dress costumes.
That is why I am wearing a gangster costume.
This is what I really look like
8Safety First!!
- I suppose my 200th cycle started when I was in
Safety Cycle class at School. Our teacher was
talking to us about the importance of staying
together during the water cycle. Although I had
been through the water cycle many times before,
Miss Icicle said that it would be harder to stick
together as the population of Waindrops had
increased due to the icecaps melting in the North
Pole (where Santa Claus lives).
9Here we go!!
- I should have known that after Miss Icicle
gave us a special talk it was bound to be time
for yet another cycle. And lo and behold, the
next morning my parents had both evaporated when
I eventually got up. I quickly ran to school
where all under age waindrops (under 5 million
years that is) must go during a cycle so they
dont get lost. Once there I saw my best friend
Rachael. She spells here name really wrongly
Rachael the Raindrop. Anyway heres a picture of
her
10Evaporation time!!
- If I could describe how you feel every time
you evaporate Id use the words horrible, dizzy,
faint, sick, light, feathery and many others. At
least I had Rachael nearby. - Five, four, three, two, one, evaporation
time!! Miss Icicle was shouting to all the
waindrops. Then the feeling came again, that
horrible dizzy feeling. I could feel everyone
around me having the same problem. Groans filled
the air and I looked around, only to see a whole
mass of half evaporated waindrops. Miss Icicle
was right you know, I whispered to myself.
Theres millions more than normal. And I wasn't
exaggerating at that. I dont think anyone had
ever seen so many waindrops!
11Up on Cloud Nine!!
- We did it!! I shouted to Rachael.
- Yes we did she replied.
- Wed made it and we were on Cloud Nine,
literally! Each cloud has a number so we can
identify where we are. I love it when we are up
in the clouds because we can cool down and
condense which is sooooooo much better than
evaporating as it doesnt hurt one little bit. - Look, its my parents, I said to Rachael.
Theyre talking to someone else. Oh look, its
your parents talking to them! - Lets go and say hello!" Rachael suggested.
- And so we did.
12Falling Down
- I think the next part of the cycle is the
best. This is the part when you fall as rain or
snow or sleet after condensing, which everyone
had already done. The posh word for all that is
precipitation. I normally fall as rain but once
I fell as sleet and that was good fun. - Miss Icicle was calling out our names and
telling us what we were going to be. Rachael!
You are going to fall as sleet! Walter! You are
going to fall asSNOW!!! - Yes! I shouted. Thats the only thing I
havent fallen as! - What luck Rachael whispered from behind me.
Ive fallen as sleet once but I dont mind doing
it ag. - She stopped as she gently fell out of the
cloud. See you down there I screamed after
her. - After that it was my turn, I dropped slowly
and peacefully. Whilst I enjoyed a bit of
relaxation, I could feel myself freezing over to
become snow!! It was soooooo exciting!!
13Ill be coming round the mountain when I come!!
- Landing as snow is better than rain or
sleet!! Youre so much softer when you are snow.
When you land on the mountains, its like
landing on a great big cushion. Once safely on
the ground I started to melt into water again as
I knew I would. I then began to look for Miss
Icicle and Rachael, both of whom had fallen as
sleet. - Within a few minutes the entire school group
was reunited and we followed Miss Icicle as she
led us down the mountain. Whilst trickling down,
Miss Icicle told us that we were forming a little
stream. How weird to think of us as a spring!
14Rollercoaster time!!
- We are a part of a group of waindrops that do
something called surface runoff. This means we
run down and along the surface of the ground
instead of going underneath. Whilst we run down
the mountains as a stream, we erode the ground
around us. There are different ways of doing
this, the one I use most often is called
hydraulic action and it is when you force
yourself into the cracks in the rocks. Its a
bit like a scary rollercoaster, but its good
fun. Normally we are only allowed to do this
with Miss Icicle as it can be a bit dangerous but
today she said Rachael and I could have a go
ourselves. I wonder what itll be like
15Disaster
- The worst thing possible has just
happened!! - Whilst Rachael and I were doing some hydraulic
action, a huge lump of sand came rushing past and
poor Rachael got wedged into the rocks we had
been eroding. She had been wedged in so far that
she could not get out no matter how hard she
tried. I quickly alerted Miss Icicle and she
found some other important people who came to
help. The group of adults were pulling and
pulling at Rachael for ages whilst I bit my
fingers in anticipation. Would they be able to
get her out? Nobody knew.
16Safe again!!
- After what seemed like a lifetime, Rachael
was free!!!!! I was so overjoyed and I made a
vow never to do anything dangerous like that ever
again on my own. Inevitably, Miss Icicle would
not let anyone leave her side, especially Rachael
who was only too happy to stick to Miss Icicle
like glue.
17Making Friends!!
- After our little stop, we carried on down the
mountains until we got to the bottom. We then
continued travelling along almost-flat ground.
By this time we had picked up various bits of
rock and sand by eroding and were transporting
them to the sea. A few other groups of waindrops
joined us and together we made a little river.
Miss Icicle told me that the groups that joined
us were tributaries and that the place they
joined us is called a confluence. I spoke to
some of the new waindrops and they seemed very
nice.
18Approaching the sea!!
- There was a lot less individual room after the
join and it was really hard to hear yourself
think, with all the noise going on. Even so, we
kept going and before long we were on completely
flat ground. It was a lot harder to flow once we
got onto the flat land and you got very tired
much quicker. A short while later a loud cry
broke through the noise Look, its the sea!
He was right, for a few miles ahead the ocean
sparkled at us invitingly. We were almost home!
19The arrival!!
- We were soon at the mouth of our river, but
not before a few other tributaries had joined us.
After we had left the river and joined the sea
at our delta, we deposited all of the sand and
rocks at the bottom of the ocean. We then went
our separate ways and rushed home to see our
parents who had arrived soon before.
