Chris Huang This is something that we have not
talked about. How do parents support teachers if
teachers never give them feedback? What is the
effective channel of communicating with parents?
Should we institute a quarterly report or
evaluation? The easy way out of this is simply
to talk about what behavior we expect from kids.
I really discourage talking about punishment.
What do want parents to do, anyway? Parents have
a responsibility to discuss with the kids what is
correct behavior. Feed back can be one on one
but this is time consuming. Parent teacher
meetings is the only realistic way right now. If
there is an issue, teachers should talk to
parents.

- Model correct behavior to help children learn
- Social aspects change as children get older
respect for the teacher changes. The behavior of
teachers need to change through time.
Chris This slide is very vague. What is the
purpose of this slide? I don't think that we'd
like to use "discipline" in this context. It
sounds like that teachers are obsessed with
"disciplining" kids in Sunday school. What we
use is more of behavior shaping, not discipline
in the sense of spanking or time out, I
think. Acknowledging that we need to try to
understand our children. The children will
respond to us more in a positive way.

Chris Huang Do you really mean it testing? I
think that we have lacked in establishing a
uniform channel of communication. Each teacher
needs to follow the guideline. Id be satisfied
if Sunday school talks to parents
more. Accountability is just a way to get feed
back and readjust. Talking to parents if fine.

15Parental Goals
- What do you expect your children to learn in
attending HPCRC youth programs? - Do you foster that same belief/value system at
home for the rest of the week? - What life-long goals do you, as Christian
parents, hope your children to achieve? - How can HPCRC youth ministry partner with you in
fortifying your childrens faith education? - Do parents know what they what their kids to be
like? - What are the traits you want to see in your
children? - What does a successful child look like?
Chris Huang Be realistic. We are not running an
educational institution. We need to re-define
parental goals in the spiritual, faith-based
framework. This is good.
16Shared Responsibility
- Parents as teachers (in Sunday school, at home).
- Support and communicate with teachers. (Discuss
what you like and suggest changes.) - Be ready for difficulties/Expect bumps in the
road (e.g. teenage years, relationship issues) - Grow with the children. (Talk to kids about God)
Chris Huang You really meant parents
responsibilities in Sunday school/religious
education only, right? Need to be more specific.
For example, support teachers, how? Made
