Review of EC Goals

• Representation of faculty concerns

  need to be explored/ better understood
• Attempt to reach beyond Vanderbilt for
  information to guide us
• Communication with students and with staff
• Codification of Faculty handbook to ensure clear
  communication and guidelines

Review of Faculty Concerns

• Retreat at start of the year to identify charges
  for the committees
• Senate members can review the committee reports
  to learn about the work done to respond to the
  charges
• Thank you to the committee chairs for their
  consistent effort to represent the faculty
• Thank you to Senate members for the effort put
  into the committee work

Review of Communication with Administration

• Regular meetings to address issues that arise
• SACS accreditation process
• Living Wage
• Mental Health initiatives
• Environmental initiatives
• Opportunity for the administration to encourage
  Senate involvement in campus initiatives

New Initiatives

• The work of the Senate continues through the
  summer with the planning of charges for the new
  year
• Continued focus upon mental health with an
  expansion to include education of faculty about
  mental illness
• Continued focus upon environmental issues on
  campus
• Ongoing focus upon graduate student education
• Ongoing focus upon impact of changes in funding
  of grants
• Discussion of Technology Transfer and
  distribution of funds

Opportunity

• Membership on the Senate provides all of us an
  opportunity to participate in the life of
  Vanderbilt
• A strength of the university is the strong
  working relationship between the Senate and the
  University leaders
• Thank you for the support of the Senate
  throughout this year
