• Priorities reflect industry concerns- specific
  issues, training needs etc..

The Minerals and Nature Conservation Forum

• Initiated in 1995 to open dialogue.
• Interested individuals - rather than
  representative.
• Initial period building understanding and
  confidence.
• Formalised relationship and activity through a
  Statement of Intent and action plan (1998).

• The Forum is uniquely placed to provide
  opportunities for conservation of geodiversity
  through advising on
• creating and managing rock exposures,
• collecting specimens,
• interpreting geology and quarries,
• involving and inspiring interested parties and
  the general public implementing Geodiversity
  Action Plans

2005 MOU

• Industry will endeavour, where appropriate, to
• conserve, enhance and promote biodiversity and
  geodiversity.
• Manage areas under its stewardship to support
  nature conservation.
• English Nature will
• provide expert advice to operators, companies and
  the QPA.
• Communicate the work of the MNCF and disseminate
  best practice to staff.

• EN, QPA and SAMSA will work together as the MNCF
  to promote the role of the minerals industry in
  encouraging positive nature conservation
  management on all mineral extraction sites.
• Develop and disseminate good practice.
• Work towards achieving the Government target of
  95 of all SSSIs in favourable condition by 2010.
• Encourage companies to produce Biodiversity and
  Geodiversity Action Plans within 5 years.

• There are no absolute rules for writing a cGAP,
  but-
• Areas that will need consideration
• Good/best practice
• Examples of complete ones
• Therefore about providing pointers, examples
  contacts etc to use in GAP and wider work on
  geodiversity
