3Overview
Students will explore the American Revolutionary
War by choosing main ideas from various sources
(Gale Group, World Book, Internet, text book,
etc) and demonstrate their knowledge of the war
through creating a PowerPoint slide show.

8Lesson Procedures
- Procedures
- Divide class into pairs/team of two.
- Read The Secret Solider aloud to the class.
- 3. Students are to use note taking skills to list
three - facts for
- a. Her significance in the Revolutionary War
(e.g. - how and why Deborah Sampson became a
- solider)
- b. Her experiences in the war
- c. Some of the obstacles she experienced
9- 4. Discuss findings with students
- 5. Teacher will assign each student a man or
woman of the war - Teacher will then pass out rubric guide sheet
- students will use to create a PowerPoint
presentation on their assigned person - 7. The students will then use Gale Group
Infotrack created by the teacher, World Book
Online, Internet, or textbook, etc. to gather
information. - 8. Since we can only use our PC lab on Fridays
this may take several days to complete. When
students have free time in class, they may search
for information using class computers. - 9. Once all information is gathered on assigned
person students will create their PowerPoint
presentation. - 10. After all students have completed their
PowerPoint, they will - use the laptop/projector in classroom to
present their - presentation.
10Enhancement
The assigned guideline sheet will have questions
about the man or woman they are researching. The
students will then be able to use the Internet
to research their information instead of using
the old traditional way Encyclopedias or
books.
11Assessment
A rubric would be used for assessing the
PowerPoint presentation. Below are the categories
that would be included on the rubric. I would
use a 5 point grading scale.
