Lesson Plan Part OneBeginning Activity

• Show the students the book cover, and ask them
  the following questions
• What do you think the this book is about?
• Why?
• What do monsters look like?
• Do all monsters look the same?
• As I read the story, look closely at the
  monsters.
• Read the story.

Lesson Plan Part TwoPost-reading Sorting
Activity

• Ask the students the following questions
• What did you think about the monsters?
• Were they scary?
• Did the monsters change during the story?
• Give each child a set of monsters copied from the
  book.
• Ask them to sort them into sets or groups (claws,
  tails, horns, etc.)
• Each time a new set is discovered, write it on
  the board.

Lesson Plan Part Three

• Have the students make their own monsters using
  clay, buttons, craft sticks, paint, etc.
• Ask each student to share their monster with
  his/her classmates. Be sure they include various
  attributes of their monster.
