Welcome to Back to School Night
  • Honors Chemistry
  • with Mrs. Magdaleno
  • Room L105

2
  • This class is designed to meet both high school
    graduation requirements and admission
    requirements for a four-year college/university.
  • As an Honors class, it gives students a higher
weighted GPA if they earn a grade of an A, B or C.

3
The Honors designation means
  • The course will move faster than a college prep
    class.
  • Your child will be exposed to more rigorous
content, more challenging problems and additional
    concepts in chemistry.
  • This is to better prepare you for college level
    chemistry or AP Chemistry

4
Class Format
  • Daily Warm-ups For reviewing and /or
    introducing new concepts
  • Homework stamping and corrections
  • Lecture Notes/demonstrations- to introduce new
    material
  • Laboratories scheduled once a week.
  • Homework Assigned daily except on test days.

5
How to help you child succeed in Chemistry
  • Send them to school everyday!
  • Good Attendance is critical!
  • If they say they have no homework in chemistry or
    they are struggling, ask them
  • Is your notebook organized and up to date?
  • Why dont you read through your notes?
  • Have you read the textbook chapters for this
    unit?
  • Have you looked at the class website?
  • Did you visit Mrs. Magdaleno at tutorial?
  • Did you request to see a list of student tutors?

6

Homework Policy
  • Homework will be given almost every night.

Attendance Tardy Policy
  • A strong consistent attendance record will be
essential for success in this course
  • Absences should be avoided if possible however,
should you become ill and miss class it will be
the STUDENTS responsibility to find out what was
missed and acquire all necessary materials upon
    your return to class.
  • Being absent for a sporting event does not excuse
you from completing your work or turning an
assignment that is due. Tell me before you are
    going to be absent!
  • They should always check the teacher website
    athttp//www.wuhsd.org//Domain/275

    semester.
  • Each time the student has an unexcused tardy,
they will lose 5 points from this 50 point total.
  • Each student will receive one free tardy and two
excused tardies from parent or teacher notes.
  • Office passes will always be considered excused.

Behavioral Expectations
  • Come to class on-time.
  • Respect others and their property.
  • Make safety a priority in the classroom.
  • Come to class prepared (with calculator!) and
    ready to learn.
  • TRY YOUR BEST!

12
Textbook and Materials Requirements
  • Textbook Chemistry- Matter and Change
    (Glencoe/McGraw Hill)
  • Class website www.wushd.k12.ca.us/kmagdaleno
  • Textbook website www.chemistrymc.com - great
    for review and self quizzes!
  • A 1-2 inch 3 ring binder with 5 separation tabs
  • A scientific calculator. I recommend the TI-34,
TI 30xA or similar model. A TI-83 graphing
calculator is fine, but I will clear all the
    memory before any test.

13
Test Redemption Extra Credit
  • No Unit Test Grades will be dropped.
  • Lowest Unit Test Grade will be redeemed (or
replaced) with your grade on the final exam (if
