Title: Marjorie Joyner

1
Marjorie Joyner
  • Marjorie Joyner was born in 1896 in the rural
Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and moved to
Chicago to study cosmetology. She died in 1994.
  • "If I can take pot roast rods and have a
one-of-a-kind invention, believe me, people can
do what they set their minds to."

2
Joyners Accomplishments
  • Marjorie Joyner, invented a permanent wave
machine. This device, founded in 1928, curled or
"permed" womens hair for a relatively lengthy
    period of time.
  • The wave machine was popular among black and
    white women.
  • Marjorie Joyner went on to become a well-known
figure in Walkers industry, but she never got
the money or the credit because of the Walker
    Company.

3
What do I have In common w/ this African American
  • What I have in common with Marjorie Joyner is
that she invented the perm which I use today.
  • She also has done hair throughout her life time
and I do the same because I love it.
  • And if she was still living I would have been
    please to meet her.

4
How my life has been affected..And others
  • She really affected my life by making the perm
because sometimes I really do need it. LOL It
also makes our hair easier to style and control.
  • Joyner affected others the same way she affected
me but some people need this more than I do.
    TRUTHFULLY!!!

5
A different World?
  • If this invention were not accomplished every
black women hair would be nappy and looking like
a mess. With the special thanks to Marjorie
Joyner us women and men also look great with
straight hair with pretty styles which tags along
    with her curling machine.
