Use an Existing Template
  • Template a file that contains page and
    paragraph formatting and text you can customize
    to create a new document similar to, but slightly
    different from, the original.

  • To open a template in Office XP, choose New on
    the File menu. Click General Templates in the New
    Document task pane.
  • To open a template in Office 2000, choose New on
    the File menu.

Create an Original Template
  • To create an original template, click Blank
    Document on the General tab. Be sure to click the
    Template option in the Create New box.
  • Word saves documents with a .doc extension and
    templates with a .dot extension.

Create a Document Using an Original Template
  • You can create a template from an existing Word
    document. Click Document Template in the Save as
    type box when saving the document.

Resume Wizard
  • Wizard a feature that allows you to create a
    customized document by answering questions that
    the wizard asks you.
  • Résumé presents a persons qualifications for a
    job in a concise form.
  • To open the Resume Wizard, click the Resume
    Wizard icon on the Other Documents tab.

Mail Merge Wizard
  • Mail Merge combining a document with
    information that personalizes it.
  • Application Letter a letter sent with a résumé
    to introduce a person to a prospective employer
    and request an interview.
  • To start the Mail Merge Wizard, open the Tools
    menu and click Letters and Mailings (Mail Merge
    in Office 2000). Click Mail Merge Wizard on the
    submenu.

Create Envelopes
  • To print envelopes, open the Tools menu and click
    Letters and Mailings (Envelopes and Labels in
    Office 2000).
  • Click Envelopes and Labels on the submenu.
  • Click the Envelopes tab in the Envelopes and
    Labels dialog box.

  • To print labels, open the Tools menu and click
    Letters and Mailings (Envelopes and Labels in
    Office 2000).
  • Click Envelopes and Labels on the submenu.
  • Click the Labels tab in the Envelopes and Labels
    dialog box.
  • To change the product number of a label, click
    the Options button on the Labels tab. Key the
    product number in the Product number box.

    Options button on the Envelopes tab. Select the
    desired size from the Envelope size drop-down
    menu.
