• Red dye was injected into a well penetrating the
  course wedge which quickly became contaminated
  due to the coarseness of the particles.

• Blue dye was injected into a well in the
  unconfined layer and the contaminant traveled
  quickly through the sand particles.

• When blue dye was put into a leaky landfill, it
  started to soak into the sand and eventually
  entered a nearby lake.

• The groundwater is being pushed through the soil
  and a large area of land is eventually
  contaminated.

• Red dye is now injected deep down into the
  confining layer, which is made of coarse
  gravel-like soil. The dye moves faster,
  contaminating a larger area in a very small
  period of time.

• When water is drawn from one of the wells, we
  discover that it has been contaminated by the red
  dye.

• Eventually, the red dye seeps into the lake,
  connecting the contamination now to surface water.
