STANDARD PRECAUTIONS(Issued by CDC)
  • Standard precautions recommend that all blood,
    body fluids, secretions, and excretions except
    sweat, be treated as infections

MODES OF TRANSMISSION(outside of workplace)
  • Sexual Contact
  • Sharing needles (drug users)
  • Receiving blood transfusions
  • Pregnant mother to unborn baby
  • Nursing mother through breast milk (for HIV, not
    HBV)

MODES OF TRANSMISSION(in the workplace)
  • Puncture wounds.
  • Skin contact
  • Mucuous membrane contact - eyes, nose, and
    mouth. Splashes from blood or if you have blood
    on your hands

CASUAL CONTACT(Will not result in infection)
  • Shaking hands
  • Using phones
  • Toilet seats
  • Drinking fountains
