Launching Argos
  • The first time Argos is launched you may see the
    following screen

Click OK in the window, then click the gold
information bar to install the required ActiveX
control

Installing the user client
  • The Argos client must be installed the first time
    you launch Argos
  • You may need to contact your helpdesk to install
    this client

Login Dialog Box
  • Enter your user name and password
  • Username is the same as FACSTAFF
  • Initial password is your T number
  • Leave Remember Password unchecked
  • Click the to add a server
  • Server name Argos
  • Server Address

  • You will need to change your password when you
    first log in
  • Dont forget or share your password
  • May want to synchronize with Banner

What is a DataBlock?
  • Data from Banner (or other data sources) is
    grouped together and pre-joined in a logical
    fashion
  • Base from which a report can easily be built
  • DataBlock QuickView Designed to send the output
    to the screen
  • DataBlock Report Designed to allow users to
    format data into a printed report

Using a QuickView
  • Reports can be run directly from a Datablock
    using QuickViews
  • Click the next to a folder to show contents
    (or double-click the folder icon)
  • Click on a DataBlock icon to make it active
  • Click the Quick View button on the right to
    execute the report

Exercise 2 Find My POs
  • Open the Finance/Payroll folder
  • Click the Find My POs DataBlock icon
  • Click the Quickview button in the menu to the
    right

If you do not see the Find My POs Datablock,
you do not have the appropriate security to view
this data. Skip to Exercise 3.

  • Select an Organization
  • Select a fiscal year
  • Click on a PO line to display Items/Invoices
    below
  • To download the data to Excel, right-click then
    click Save Results

  • Click the Scheduling DataBlock icon
  • Click the Quickview button in the menu to the
    right

  • The course listing is displayed below
  • Select a course to see the detail
  • To download the data to Excel, right-click in
    either box then click Save Results

  • Several reports have been pre-designed and are
    ready for you to run
  • Reports are built from the fields in a Datablock
  • Fields are pre-selected and formatted

  • CSV can be exported and opened in Excel
  • Banded report More formal looking report with
    headers, etc.
  • QuickView Display data on screen

Exercise 4 Employee List by Department
  • Open the Human Resource Services folder
  • Click the beside the HRBlock by Dept
    datablock
  • Click on the Employee List by Department report
  • Click Execute

  • Preview Preview the report on screen
  • Save to file Save the report output to your
    computer
  • Save as PDF, html, Excel, text
  • Print Print the report to paper
  • Click Close when finished

Add To QuickLaunch
  • For reports that you run on a regular basis, it
    is helpful to create shortcuts to them
  • Click on the DataBlock or report icon
  • Right-click, then choose Add to QuickLaunch
  • You can make the name of the shortcut more
    meaningful to you

Creating your own report
  • You can create your own report from an existing
    DataBlock
  • Comma Delimited (CSV)
  • Customize the columns, order, column names, add
    calculated fields
  • Banded Report
  • Lists, Tabular, Forms, Mailing Labels
  • Add graphics
  • Banded reports are quite difficult. You may need
    to create a new report request for these.

  • We need to create a budget report that summarizes
    the remaining budget for each fund in an
    organization
  • Create a New Report

    DataBlock, select Comma delimited

  • Choose the fields to include in your report

  • Give your report a name starting with your user
    name
  • Click the Private radio button
  • Add a description to help you remember what is
    included in the report

  • Right-click on your report, add to Quick Launch
    (this step is optional)
  • Click EXECUTE to run your report
  • When prompted, select Create and Launch to create
    a CSV file from your new report
