• Overview
• Network Print queues in schools with remote
  services, whilst setup by NSR School Support, can
  be managed by a designated school staff member of
  the computer coordinator group

Printer Location and the Comment Field Print
queue names are created to DET standards as are
the all computers within a standardised school.
The location can be whatever the school wants as
advised by the Computer Coordinator however the
name must be correct Installation of a
printer is managed through manipulation of the
comment field this can be accessed by the
computer coordinator from any machine that has
the printer installed.

Note If the printer is not installed on any
machine it can be manually installed simply by
going to \\schoolcode-sm001 and double click on
the printer required Note A printer from
another school can be installed, however printing
is not permitted unless the operator is a member
of the staff group for that school

• The comment field is the area which inputs into
  the script for the School-Printers job on the
  Altiris Console.
• There is no limit to the number of entries that
  can be inserted here but there are only 3 input
  variables that are recognised.
• Any number of entries can be made with each
  separated by a comma.

• Input 1 2 characters for the Block ie Block B
  is BR all levels
• Input 2 3 characters for Block and Level ie.
  Block B, Level 1
• Input 3 6 characters for AMS Room number ie
  BR0006

• The 1st example of the printer below will deploy
  to all PCs in A Block on any level.

• The 2nd example will deploy to all PCs in A
  Block on all levels, C Block Level 1 only,
  Demountable D11956 and Room ER0006.

• Default Printer
• The setting of a default printer is not
  supported. Many schools are actively trying to
  reduce the amount of accidental printing within
  the school.
• The Microsoft Office Document Image Writer which
  is included in the install of Office will be the
  default

• A user may set a default printer, however its
  preferable that staff and students become
  familiar with the process of selecting a printer
  from the available options rather than simply
  pressing the printer button
