Antifungals

• Parasitic fungal infection remains a significant
  issue for the health, welfare and survival of
  fish in fresh water.
• Some promising developments from work funded as a
  consequence of CARD 2003.
• Further work required to examine efficacy of
  candidate compounds with a view to their future
  approval as veterinary medicines.

Sea Louse Medicines

• Local, regional and national strategic approaches
  to sea louse control require a range of
  authorised medicines.
• Preserve efficacy / Optimise rotational use /
  Prevention of resistance (via ISLM initiative)
• Improve practicability
• Limit environmental impact
• Improve acceptability within stakeholder groups
  (AMGs, etc)
• In real terms, access to efficacious medicines
  has now significantly declined.

IPN Epidemiology and Control

• Vertical transmission of IPNv in Atlantic salmon?
• Control of IPN through the development and use of
  efficacious and cost effective vaccines.
• Genetics associated with susceptibility and
  resistance to IPN to inform selective breeding
  programmes and the design of vaccines,

• Key aspects and issues identified by SEPA expert

• Now to be progressed via SARF and elsewhere
• Commercial pressure to have larger, more
  efficient sites available.
