2"New and stirring things are belittled because if
they are not belittled, the humiliating question
arises, 'Why then are you not taking part in
them?' " - H. G. Wells
Technology is not a subject to be belittled, it
is here with us and we must embrace technology
into our lives and the lives of our students.
3Importance of Technology in the Classroom
- Provides the teacher with limitless resources
- Give substance to once abstract ideas
- Explains ideas or events not covered in a
standard textbook - Uses an alternative learning style
- Ideas for teacher development
4Teacher Resources
- Find Lesson Plans
- Provide visual aides
- Supplemental materials
- Ideas for field trips
- Resource pages to help parents and students at
home
Click here to find lesson plans on the
Smithsonian Education Site
5Abstract Ideas in View
- Real pictures of subjects and ideas
- Video presentations
- Experiments to demonstrate ideas

of 3 - Real Time Satellite Track - This site provides
several ways to get information in real time
for sighting opportunities from your back yard.
You can see the flight path the Space Shuttle
takes when it lands, or find orbital tracking
data for the International Space Station and
Space Shuttle. - Models - The Cassini/Huygens Spacecraft, Hubble
Space Telescope, and Mars spacecraft are just a
few of the models that you can download and
assemble. Check out these sites with skill levels
that range from beginner to advanced. - Central Operation of Resources for Educators
(CORE - Educational materials such as videotape
programs, slide sets, CD-ROMs, and DVDs are
available for a minimal fee from CORE. CORE is a
worldwide distribution center for NASAs
educational multimedia materials. - NASA Liftoff to Learning Video Tape Series - is a
sixteen-part videotape series. The videos contain
footage from space flights, and each program
comes with a printed video resource guide that
provides valuable background information for
teachers, resources for additional study, and
practical hands-on demonstrations of some of the
concepts presented in the videotapes. - NASAs Kids Science News Network (KSNN) - is a
Web- and video-based program for everyone
students, educators, parents, or anyone else who
wants to know why things work or what makes
things happen. The target audience is K-5. Each
broadcast is presented in an inquiry-based format
that begins with a 1-minute, streaming video
newsbreak from the KSNN Web site and is then
followed up with a collection of resources. All
programs are available in English and Spanish. - NASA SCIence Files Series TM - is a series of
60-minute instructional programs that are free,
interactive, closed-captioned, and
standards-based. Each program is designed to
integrate math, science, geography, and
technology in grades 3-5. The broadcasts are
accompanied by Web-based resources for students,
educators and parents. - NASA_CONNE - is a series of 30-minute
instructional programs that are free,
interactive, closed-captioned, and
standards-based. Each program uses NASA projects,
facilities, and researchers to emphasize
mathematics, science, geography, and technology
in grades 5-8. Each show has a lesson guide, a
classroom activity, and a Web-based component. - NASA LIVE - is a series of synchronous (two-way)
videoconferencing programs for learning,
instructional enrichment, and professional
development for students and faculty by engaging
them in an interactive, virtual environment with

9An Alternative Learning Style
- New ways of looking at old information
- Combines visuals with written concepts
- Prepares students for the technology world they
live in - Allows parents to participate in education
