The Second Week of Advent

A shoot shall come out from the stump of
Jesse and a branch shall grow out of his
roots.   The spirit of the LORD shall rest on
him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of
knowledge and the fear of the LORD. From the
Prophecy of Isaiah, chapter 11, verses 1-2

Centuries later Jesus would stand up and say
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because
he has anointed me to bring good news to the
poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the
captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the
year of the Lord's favor. Luke 4 1-19

Dear God, you come to us as a call in the
wilderness, a face in the darkness, a still small
voice In Jesus you touched the suffering,
listened to the ignored and gave hope to the
saddened. You bandaged the broken with love and
you healed them. We believe that your power to
heal is still with us and so, in this place and
at this moment, we call on your help
