9Jurisdictions Making Progress
- Alaska added two temporary positions and finished
data entry on missing records. - Indiana previously only had 38 of records in
electronic form. They will complete data entry
of records back to 1935 in the fall of this year.

- Massachusetts received a 3.9 million Medicaid
transformation grant for scanning and indexing
historical birth and death records. - Michigan received a 3.9 million Medicaid
transformation grant and plans to scan documents
and create indexes back to 1935.

- Mississippi obtained funding to install EVVE and
is now participating in EVVE. - Montana moved suffix to separate field and is now
participating in EVVE.

- New Jersey is presently using available funds for
deployment of EDRS and development of EBRS. Once
these systems are deployed, they will reassign
staff to enter missing data and incomplete
historical records.

- Ohio presently has electronic birth indexes back
to 2001, but they will have electronic records
back to 1950 within 12-14 months. Then they will
start loading records back to 1935. In 2004 they
increased their fees by 5 to image and index
older records.

- Oregon used vital records fees to complete data
entry of records back to 1920. They plan to
complete the separation of first and middle names
into separate fields by July 2007.
15Jurisdictions Making Progress
- Washington increased their fees and uploaded
birth records with necessary EVVE items back to
1925. By the end of the summer, Washington will
have scanned death records back to 1965.

- West Virginia has a cost improvement project that
allows them to image and index old records. - Wisconsin has submitted a budget provision for
data entry funding. By fall of 2007, they will
know if funding is approved.
