The Olympic games
  • The Olympic Games are the most important and the
    most famous they are held every 4 years, they
    have their summer and winter parts, which change
    once every 2 years. The first recorded O.G. took
    place in Olympia in Greece in the year 776 BC.
  • The Olympic symbol is 5 interlaced circles
    standing for the friendship of all the races from
    the 5 continents.
  • Motto of the Olympic Games is "faster, higher,
    stronger."
  • The aims of the Olympic movement are to promote
    sport, to create a more peaceful and friendly
    world, to bring athletes together in a great
    sport festival and to spread these Olympic
    principles.

The Olympic games
  • The opening ceremony starts with huge display,
    which presents host country's culture and
    history. Important is to raise the flag, to lit
    the flame.
  • Each country has its own National Olympic
    Committee, which is in charge of all the teams
    that take part. The main worldwide organization,
    the official body of the Olympic Games is
    International Olympic Committee its seat is in
    Lousanne, Switzerland.
  • Olympic athletes must be amateurs they only get
    medals, not money. Silver and bronze medals are
    made of solid metal but gold medals are only
    gold-plated silver.
  • Since 1960 there are also Paralympics for people
    with physical handicap and in 1963 began Special
    Olympics for people with mental handicap.

  • are used to build muscles or give extra energy
  • kill the pain of injuries
  • calm nerves,
  • but many are illegal.

  • Beta-blockers

Drugs and health
  • Problems they don?t create energy they take
    it from your body. Users feel exhausted and
    washed-out. There is a danger of having a heart
    attack (collapse).
  • Beta-blockers are drugs, which are normally
    prescribed by doctors for people with high blood
    pressure or heart problems. They help calm you
    down and relieve stress. Users snooker players
    and archers who need steady hands and cool
    nerves. Problems with heart and blood pressure.
  • Anabolic steroids are used to build up muscles,
    they resemble male hormones. Bodybuilders use
    anabolic steroids to look good in competitions.
    These drugs can cause health problems liver
    cancer in men and infertility in women. You can
    become very aggressive.
  • Stimulants make you feel full of energy and
    confidence, and you have bigger stamina. It?s
    amphetamines and cocaine, they are used by
    cyclists and basketball players, footballers.

    would like to persuade him/her to take one up.
    Suggest three sports you think are the most
    relevant for the person. Explain your choice and
    give advice how to start with them. Explain to
    him/her the importance of practising sport.
