Server Farms

• A server farm
• Is a logical group of servers running MetaFrame
  Presentation Server
• Can consist of a single server or multiple
  servers
• Can be created when installing MetaFrame
  Presentation Server

Independent Management Architecture

• Independent Management Architecture
• Runs on all servers with MetaFrame Presentation
  Server installed
• Provides the framework for all server-to-server
  communication in a server farm
• Is a collection of subsystems that is designated
  by .DLL files
• Centralizes administration tasks into a single
  graphical user interface
• Delivers subsystems that collectively provide
  functionality to current and future Citrix
  Products

Data Collectors and Zones

• Data collectors
• Are responsible for maintaining dynamic
  information, such as server loads and active
  sessions, for only the zone in which they reside
• Can be configured by an administrator by changing
  the Preference setting
• Zones
• Are logical groupings of servers running
  MetaFrame Presentation Server within a server
  farm
• Have only one data collector per zone
• Can be configured for Zone Preference and Failover

Data Store and Local Host Cache

• The data store database
• Maintains and tracks static information for the
  server farm
• Can be one of the following databases
• Microsoft Access
• Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE)
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Oracle
• IBM DB2
• The local host cache
• Is located on each server running MetaFrame
  Presentation server
• Maintains a subset of the information contained
  in the data store database

• The Management Console for MetaFrame Presentation
• Server
• Is a Java-based utility
• Is used to manage a server farm
• Can manage only one server farm at a time

• Integrates with the Microsoft Management Console
• Can be used to launch management consoles for
  MetaFrame Access Suite products
• Can be used to manage multiple server farms

Independent Computing Architecture Protocol

• Independent Computing Architecture Protocol
• Is the multi-channel remote presentation layer
  protocol developed by Citrix
• Transmits screen updates, keystrokes and mouse
  movements between the server and the client
  device
• Functions on both the server and the client device
