- Recognition of Prior Learning is not a new
phenomenon. - The RPL model for the Constuction Industry was
contextualised in 1994. - Piloting was carried out in Bloemfontein in 1995.
- Lessons learnt on this pilot project are
incorporated into the current RPL Model.

- The Project Budget is R50 million spread over a
three year period.

26CONCLUSIONS RECOMMENDATIONS
Consolidate the linkages established
To be sustainable, RPL needs to be implemented as
an integral component of the NQF
Consolidate industry linkages with the RPL
process through the provision of an on-the-job
development period for successful RPL candidates
Formalise RPL policy to include the controls
necessary to ensure standardisation of delivery
Develop accreditation criteria and procedures
Control the data generated by the RPL process
RPL Advisers and Assessors to be responsible to
the relevant training boards and other approved
entities
Install a trade testing model
Assist Industry training Boards and other
approved institutions with the development of
National Standards and Skill test Programmes
