We can group plants into these groups because
they all reproduce, some with seeds and some
with spores!
There are many kinds of mosses and ferns, too!
These are just some, there are many more!!!!

Plants

• Plants are organisms that
• use photosynthesis
• have cell walls
• cannot move on their own
• grow in soil or water
• and usually have green leaves

Photosynthesis

• Photosynthesis is a process that plants use to
  turn carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates
  and oxygen,
• using light energy trapped by chlorophyll.

The plant uses sunlight to make its food through
photosynthesis.

Plants with seeds

• Plants that have seeds use them to reproduce.
• There are thousands of plants that use seeds, but
  they either use
• FLOWERS or CONES
• Flowering plants use flowers,
• and Conifers use cones, (like pine cones).

• Some plants do not use seeds to reproduce.
• They use SPORES, which are tiny cells that fall
  to the ground and create new plants.
• The plants that use spores are ferns and mosses.

Flowering Plants have seeds

• There are many, many flowering plants in the
  world.
• Fruit trees and plants, vegetables, grasses,
  weeds, cacti and other trees are all flowering
  plants.
• These plants use seeds to reproduce.

These dandelion seeds blow away and make
new dandelions.
Bees help plants reproduce with pollination.

Conifers have seeds

• These plants use seeds to reproduce.
• The seeds are in cones- pine cones!!!
• You have seen these trees, and have heard them
  called
• Evergreens
• Pine trees
• Spruces
• Christmas trees,
• And more!!!!

Ferns have spores

• Ferns are plants that use spores, not seeds, to
  reproduce.
• Fern spores are found on the underside of the
  fern leaves.
• These spores drop off on to the ground and make
  new ferns.

This fern has new leaves that are uncurling.
This butterfly is resting on the fern.

Mosses have spores

• Mosses are another kind of plant that use spores
  to reproduce.
• The spores of moss are released from spore cases
  that fall on the ground and make new moss.
• Moss is found in moist, shady places.
• Moss does not have roots or stems.

Moss is growing on these rocks
This frog loves moss!

Pollination
Bee on flower

• Pollination is how many flowering plants
  reproduce.
• It is a way to transfer pollen grains from the
  male structure of a plant anther to the female
  structure of a plant stigma and fertilize it.
• Bees are one of the most helpful pollinators.
  They collect pollen grains on their legs and
  bodies and carry it from flower to flower!
