What is Abstract Expressionism?

• Abstract Expressionism a movement that
  flourished in the 20th century which focuses on
  the artists emotions and the act of creating the
  piece. It emphasizes that art is
  non-representational.

Jackson Pollock (1912-1956)

• Born in Cody, Wyoming on January 28th, 1912.
• Attended Manual Arts High School
• Studied rural America as his main subject matter.
• Influenced by Mexican artists and Surrealists.
• Known as Jack the Dripper
• Technique general abstraction
• Works spontaneous and choreographed
• In the 1950s, his work again became less
  colorful and more dark.
• Died in a car crash on August 11th, 1956 at the
  age of forty-four
• It doesn't matter how the paint is put on,
  as long as something is said.

• Born in Brooklyn, New York on October 27th, 1908
• Biggest Influences Hans Hoffman and Jackson
  Pollock
• Little Image "Series (graphic, vivid)
• Style colorful, shallow space, Cubism
• Night Journey Series blacks, whites, deal with
  grief.
• Died on June 19th, 1984 at the New York Hospital

I think, if one is a painter, all you experience

Willem de Kooning (1904-1997)

• Born on April 24th , 1904, in Rotterdam, Holland.
• Attended the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts
• Painted murals for Federal Arts Project
• FPA program during the Great Depression Era
  which employed out-of-work artists and provided
  art for non-federal government buildings.
• Main focus depicting women
• Women Series
• Developed Alzheimer's disease in 1987 and died on
  March 19th, 1997 at the age of 92.
• I dont paint to live, I live to paint.
