You might live with your family. You might have
lived with your family since you were very
young. You can choose to stay with your family
if everyone is happy for this to happen. It is
ok to choose to live with your family.

You can choose to live with a carer in the
carers own home. The carer will not be part of
your family. To live with a carer you need to
have an assessment from Adult Social Care to find
out if it is right for you. An assessment is a
list of questions someone will ask to see if you
are allowed to get something.

You might want to rent a house or a flat. If you
rent a house or flat you do not own it. You pay
money each month to the person or company that
owns the house or flat. Here are some of the

You can rent a house or flat from the council or
from a housing association. Lots of people rent
a home this way. You need to put your name on a
list. Then the council has to find the right
house for you. If you want to live on your own
you would need a home with 1 bedroom. You cannot
get a house with 3 bedrooms. It would be too big.
A family with more people would need a bigger
house like that. You might have to wait a long
time for the right house.

There are neighbourhood watch groups in and near

who volunteer to support the local police. This

CARE Shangton is the biggest shared home for
people with learning disabilities in Harborough
district. It is close to the village called
Shangton. Shangton is 4 miles away from Market
Harborough. 51 people live at CARE Shangton.
There are five houses supported by staff. CARE
Shangton has a coffee bar and a small shop. There
is a sign at the main entrance that tells you
when the shop and coffee bar is open. You can

Applying for a job
To ask for a job you might need to fill out an
application form. An application form has
questions about you and why you would be good at
the job. You can get help to fill out the
application form. You should fill out the
application form neatly. You should send it off
in time. There is usually a closing date for job
applications. This means that if you apply after
that date it is too late.

Part time work is paid work that you do for less
than 16 hours each week. Full time work is paid
work that you do for more than 16 hours each
week. Voluntary work is when you go out to work
