21- Controlled Assessment and GCSEs
22Controlled Assessments (CA)
- Coursework has been replaced with new on-going
assessments Controlled Assessments - Change is due to the need to authenticate student
work with greater degrees of certainty. - CA is not the same as coursework
- New rules and regulations in most cases very
different form previous arrangements and specific
to each subject - CA can only be taken once, regardless of marks
achieved no re-drafts, no re-submission
particularly important for BS, Geography
History - CA operate under low-, medium- and high control
conditions. - Repeats for absence, only with special
consideration
23Teachers cannot
- allow work to be resubmitted after deadline / CA
day - allow boys to draft pieces of course related
work. - give feedback on errors / omissions
- indicate how specific improvements to
presentations or content can be made - give marks or grades to students of parents
- provide model answers and writing frames
24Controlled conditions
- High Control similar to an open book exam
formal exam conditions students must be aware
of what materials can be brought into the exam
it is incumbent on the student to ensure that
they have all appropriate materials. - Medium Controlstudent work (vast majority) must
be supervised by teachers work cannot be taken
home often over extended periods - Low Control similar to a typical Wilsons
lesson boys should be using this time wisely
25Controlled Assessment and Attendance
- High control days are compulsory
- It is important that boys are not absent from
school on these days - Exam leave for revision prior to a CA day is
not permitted particularly Science ISAs - Attendance during periods of medium control is
essential
26Questions or queries
- All questions and queries about CA should be
directed to the Year Manager - Year Manager will consult with Head of Department
and the Assistant Head i/c CA - ad_at_wilsonsschool.sutton.sch.uk
