How to help child with Turners

• Organisational skills being prepared
• Extra hand writing copy
• A few extra sums at home if needed
• Jigsaws to help spatial awareness
• Keep television to a minimum
• Encourage independence
• Treat child by age not by height
• Encourage sports
• Encourage participation in after-school
  activities
• Encourage healthy eating

• Be open
• Give child information as needed and age
  appropriate
• Discuss with child who they should tell and when
• Encouage child to accept having turner syndrome
• Be positive

Secondary school

• School bag
• Injections
• Discuss with principal and form teacher
• Continued independence
• Age appropriate activities
• Continue in extra curricular activities
• Discuss again telling peers
• Discuss subject choices
• End of secondary school discuss realistic further
  education options

Bullying

• Encourage child to stand up for herself
• If it continues let school know
• Ask teacher to deal with bullying descreetly
• If this doesnt sort out problem discuss with
  principal and follow procedures
• Practice role play situations with child

Improving social skills

• Encourage child to participate in activities
  outside and as part of school
• Praise all efforts
• If child is shy talk about things they could chat
  about with their friends
• Encourage child in small groups first

Promoting a good self-image

• Wear age appropriate clothes
• Keep weight healthy
• Embrace individuality
• Praise all efforts
• Focus on strengths
• Asking for help when needed is a sign of strength
