Same old, Same old
  • Bell work and closing activities daily
  • Use the uniform grade distributions
  • Continue to place two grades on PowerSchool per
    week
  • Refer to the district grading policy for all
    concerns on grading. (www.scsk12.org)
  • Please refer all students who struggle
    (academically or socially) early to guidance for
    conferences
  • Call parents weekly (even if it is about student
    improvement).

Same old, Same old
  • Use the syllabus template just as you did last
    year
  • Remember to give a five paragraph essay writing
    assignment each 9 weeks to your students
  • Give a syllabus, discipline policy, and parent
    letter to every student by Wednesday, August 12,
    2009. All of these documents are due to me by
    Monday, August 10, 2009 at the end of the day.

  • Lesson Plans
  • You are responsible for keeping a written copy of
    weekly lesson plans for the 2009-2010 school
    year.
  • All objectives and assessments must be written
    clearly on the board or on all electronic media
    presentations.
  • All objectives and SPIs must be written on your
    assessments.
  • I will call for lesson plans unannounced during
    the school year. I will announce on a Tuesday,
    and expect them by the following Friday morning
    by 7 AM.
  • If you do not turn in lesson plans, you will have
    a conference with me if lesson plans fail to
    turn up from this area, other steps will be
    taken.
  • You have to use the lesson plan template , just
    as you did last year.

New This School Year
  • Evaluations
  • Administration will begin during the last week of
    September this year.
  • New Teachers and teachers who are candidates for
    tenure will be evaluated in the first rotation.
    A rotation will begin every six weeks.
  • All first year teachers to SHS must develop a
    unit plan this school year. It will consist of a
    total of ten lessons with all assessments
    (pre-assessments, quizzes, and unit tests).
  • All teachers who are scheduled for walk-through
    assessments will meet with me before the
    evaluation process begins.
  • All administrators will evaluate teachers.

  • Guidance
  • No students will be allowed to come to guidance
    unless they have a pass from their guidance
    counselor.
  • If a student needs to see a guidance counselor,
    they will complete a Request to See A Guidance
    Counselor Form from their English teacher.
  • The counselor will write a pass for students to
    come to their office, and will send them back
    with a pass to class with a date and time.
  • Do not write a pass for students to come to
    guidance for any reason.
  • If a student needs to see Ms. Lloyd, please refer
    the student to a grade-level administrator. The
    grade-level administrator will call Ms. Lloyd to
    see the student immediately.

  • Bell Work
  • All students in Gateway courses should have bell
    work that emphasizes area of weakness as reported
    by ThinkLink or by areas of review in the current
    area of study.
  • All upper-level courses in mathematics, science,
    English 11, English 12, Government, Economics,
    and US History should focus on ACT for bell work.
  • Closing Review
  • A closing review is expected daily exit tickets
    or exit quizzes are allowable.
  • These reviews must relate to the lesson that you
    are teaching.

  • Common Assessments
  • All courses at SHS will be vertically aligned
    through the usage of common assessments.
  • All courses will have a common first semester and
    second semester exam.
  • Exams will meet all standards and SPIs as
    determined by the course curriculum guides and
    pacing charts.
  • Please see your department chair on how to locate
    this curriculum guide.
  • All of these tests will be created by Tuesday,
    September 15, 2009. All teachers will be
    involved in the writing of these tests.

  • ZAP (Zeroes Arent Permitted)
  • Students will not be allowed to simply earn a
    zero.
  • Level One
  • Teacher gives the student the opportunity to make
    up the grade with no penalty. Teacher determines
    point value of the assignment.
  • An email or call is made immediately to the
    parent about the make up date and the grade.
  • Level Two
  • Teacher refers the student to their grade level
    administrator where they are given academic
    detention after school.
  • During academic detention, student will complete
    the work for a grade of 70.
  • A parent teacher conference is set up for the
    student. An academic contract will be formulated
    for this student, with steps to academic success
    and clear consequences for academic decline.

  • Level Three
  • Teacher refers the student to their grade level
    administrator where they are given Friday school
    to complete all missing assignments.
  • Student will receive 50 for all missing
    assignments.
  • We will follow the academic contract plan for
    consequences.
  • Level Four
  • Teacher refers the student to their grade level
    administrator where they are given academic
    detention after school.
  • Student receives 0 on all work.
  • Student and parents are referred to an SIT team
    meeting for more intervention.

  • Major Projects
  • All major projects with the exception of term
    papers will need to have assignment sheets and
    parent information letters sent home before the
    assignment is due.
  • The parent/guardian must send a slip back signed
    to you saying that they have received the
    assignment schedule, grading rubric, and project
    guidelines.
  • If you have some questions or concerns about the
    project or scope of a project, please see me
    before you give the assignment out to the
    students.
