What is it?
1. Its a way to publish Maps, Data and Metadata
on the web.
2. A means to create interactive web mapping.
3. Can be used to give non-GIS users an easy way
to view GIS data.

How It Works
1. User access IMS site, makes a request (Zoom
In, Zoom Out, Pan)
2. Web server passes request to ArcIMS
application server.
3. ArcIMS server processes the request and then
passes the result back to the web server
4. Web server then displays the data to the user

1. Java Uses the Java programming language also
   uses the ArcIMS Java connector

• With VB6 only one request can be processed at a

• Can be set up with Designer (cookie cutter)

• 3. HTML using VB.Net and ArcXML
• New technology
• Many requests can be processed at the same time
  (Multi-threading)
