4IAGT Mission Statement
- The Irving Association for Gifted and Talented
(IAGT) is an organization of parents and other
individuals who unite to address the unique needs
of gifted and talented students. We encourage and
endorse policies that support the social,
emotional, and intellectual needs of the gifted
child.
5 IAGT ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP PARTICIPATION
INFORMATION
IAGT is an organization of parents and friends
of the IISD gifted and talented student
population in Irving, Texas who advocate and
partner with IISD to meet the intellectual,
emotional and social needs of the gifted and
talented. Each member enables the success for the
rest of the organization. We operate in a round
table atmosphere sharing responsibilities
collectively. CAMPUS COMMITTEES are the
foundation from which the organization is built.
These committees can be made up of all IAGT
Parent Members on a school campus. From this pool
of volunteers, a SCHOOL LIAISON, can be selected
that will attend their Cluster Meeting
representing their school and its needs. All
Campus Committee members are welcome to attend
Cluster and Board meetings as non voting
participants. IAGT Board Members are elected or
appointed from the Cluster Meetings. TEACHERS
and ADMINISTRATORS can facilitate the
participation of parents in IAGT by selecting at
least one parent from each GT class to represent
them in the CAMPUS COMMITTEE. There is no limit
to those parents in each class that want to be a
part of the CAMPUS COMMITTEE. This committees
function can be developed as the volunteer pool
affords by helping the campus GT classes meet
their practical needs on campus, i.e., field
trips, parties, supplies, programs etc. GT
Room Mothers or Fathers might be good candidates
from each class. GT teachers know which parents
really want to be involved.

- Our second general meeting of the year
("general" meaning that all 3000 GT students and
their families were invited via handouts we
delivered to every school) was held at Irving
High School on February 25, 2002. Our speaker
was GT specialist Mary Christopher, Assistant
Professor of Elementary/Gifted Education and
Teacher Certification Officer from Hardin-Simmons
University.
Mrs. Christopher's topic was "Building a Home for
Your Gifted Child". Handouts were provided, and
extra copies are available through IAGT. Her
relaxed approach and practical parenting tips
encouraged parents to ask questions and discuss
personal concerns with her both before and after
her presentation. Taken from the Spring 2002

23Blair Poole
Foundation for all learning is sensory motor
development.
Building Brain Bridges Blair Poole will
present an interactive program for students
parents showing what is needed to perform at
their instinctive capability level. The
foundation for all learning is sensory motor
development. With good sensory motor skills, a
child is able to perform, think, learn better
in school no matter what the IQ or environment.
Some children never reach the level that they
instinctively know they can. Ms. Blair will show
how to reach that potential no matter what the
present capability level.
