  • Increase peoples access to quality local spaces
    for interaction, play and recreation
  • Increase in people actively involved in
    developing and running a practical environmental
    project that is visible in their community

    organisations, communities and authorities

  • Eligibility
  • Who can apply?
  • 1. Only not-for-profit community groups can apply
  • This may include
  • Community groups governed by a written
    constitution
  • Registered charities and trusts
  • Church based and other faith groups
  • Friends of groups
  • Tenants and residents associations

  • Individuals
  • Sole traders
  • Statutory bodies (including local authorities,
  • parish or town councils, schools and health
  • bodies)
  • Profit-making organisations

Eligibility continued Applicants must answer YES
to the following questions 1. Are you a
community group? 2. Is your project based in
England? 3. Does your project meet the Community
Spaces outcomes? 4. Is your project within a 2
mile radius of a residential area? 5. Will your
project be open to the public most of the
time? 6. Do you agree to work with a
Facilitator if you are successful at Stage 1?

  • How much can groups apply for?
  • Small grants - 10,000 - 25,000
  • Medium grants - 25,001 - 49,999
  • We anticipate these grants will be available on a
    rolling basis from 2008 2011.
  • Large grants - 50,000 - 100,000 (Deadline
    9 January 2009)
  • Flagship grants - 100,001 - 450,000
    (Deadline 30 January 2009)
  • These grants will have one application round.
    There will be 4 large 1 flagship per region.

How to apply Two-stage application process Stage
1 - Community Spaces Website Advice Line
- Applicants will receive a decision within
10 weeks Stage 2 - Through Facilitator - Once
submitted applicants will receive a decision
within 12 weeks

Facilitator Role
  • Allocated after stage 1 approval
  • Support with planning project
  • Support and guidance with stage 2 application
  • Support and advice in project delivery
  • Groups can receive up to 14 days Facilitator
    time over the life of the project

Large Flagship Application Process Large
applications received by 9 January 2009 Flagship
applications received by 30 January
2009 Successful stage 1 applications submit stage
2 applications in June and July 2009 Briefings
will be available for successful flagship stage 1
applications, to support them. Final grant
decisions will be made in September 2009

    ii) value to the community and neighbourhood/regio

  • Is the project sustainable?

  • Application Advice
  • Read the guidance notes programme information
  • Take time working up project ideas we want to
    fund quality projects
  • Answer all the questions and in full
  • Community Spaces prefer to be the majority
    funder
  • Match funding is not a requirement for small,
    medium or large grant sizes
  • Break down larger projects into smaller phases
  • Include budget information in application
