Folders
  • Communication folder- help parents and teachers
    be informed of students progress.
  • Place notes, questions, concerns etc. in the
    communication folder. It is checked daily.

Behavior
  • Blue- Great Day!
  • Green- Verbal Warning
  • Yellow- Lose 10 minutes privilege
  • Red- Lose 15 minutes privilege

Homework/ Reading Log
  • Read to your child every night!
  • Homework is important! As a first grader, your
    child works very hard during the day so not much
    homework is given at night. However, please read
    with your child.

  • Social Studies/Science/ Health- participation

Progress Reports/ Report Cards
  • Progress Every 4 ½ weeks

  • Notebook that has samples of your childs work.
    Sent home at the end of the year.

Curriculum
  • Packet List of what is taught in first grade
  • Accelerated Reader STAR test to determine
    reading level. Reading test- doesnt start until
    January.
  • We will have a couple of home projects!
  • Student of the Week

  • Harcourt Language Arts series
  • Work in small groups and whole group instruction.
  • Story each week- develop skills from the stories.

Spelling
  • Words from the Language Arts books.
  • Various activities with the words throughout the
    week.
  • Test on Friday!

  • Nouns, adjectives, verbs and pronouns.
  • Various activities to reinforce topic
  • Use Daily Oral Language.
  • Test on Friday!

  • Use manipulatives to understand Math facts.
  • Connect to real-life experiences
  • Use calendar and problem of the day

Field Trips
  • Taking two field trips
  • Columbia Zoo
  • Charlottes Web
  • Maybe a third field trip

Attendance
  • Refer to handbook on attendance
  • Always bring a note!

Volunteers
  • You can sign up tonight if you would like to be a
    volunteer!
  • We will need help for centers during different
    seasons. I will contact you to ask for help.
  • If you would like to come in and read to the
    class- send a note and let me know!

Snacks
  • Make sure you are sending a snack with your
    child! Try to be healthy!

Transportation
  • If transportation changes for your child, I must
    have a written note!
