COMPASS ROSE

• A compass rose is a figure on a map used to
  display the orientation of the cardinal
  directions, north, south, east, and west.

INTERMEDIATE DIRECTIONS

• The intermediate directions are northeast,
  southeast, southwest, and northwest.

READING MAPS

• A key or legend tells the reader what the maps
  signs and symbols mean
• When a location is given using latitude and
  longitude, it is called absolute location
• When a location is given by relating it to
  something nearby, it is called relative location

• Another name for lines of latitude are parallels
• Another name for lines of longitude are meridians
• Another name for the equator is 0 degrees
  latitude
• Another name for the prime meridian is 0 degrees
  longitude
