Learning Together in 3rd Gradeby Barbara and
Sue Gruber
  • Third grade is a special place,
  • See the big smile on my face.
  • Our class is a great team,
  • We make our teacher beam.
  • We work hard each busy day,
  • Then out to the yard to play
  • Multiplication is fun,
  • Nine times nine is eighty-one.
  • Learn the math facts one through ten,
  • Practice-again and again.
  • Reading, writing, spelling too,
  • So much to learn, much to do.
  • History, geography, science too,
  • We even learn about the ocean blue.
  • Third grade is a special place,

3
Attendance
  • In third grade many of our learning activities
are hands-on learning experiences. This makes
catching up on missed instruction extremely
difficult. For this reason, it is important that
your child be in school daily.
  • Each day begins at 830am. The tardy bell rings
at 835am. It is imperative that your child be
in the classroom before that time so that
    valuable instruction is not missed.
  • In the event that your child is absent, please be
sure to send an excuse to school on the day that
    your child returns.

4
Behavior
  • Our classes have worked together to devise our
class rules. It is our intent to give each
student the time and attention he/she deserves.
Therefore, if a student demands more attention
than others in regards to misbehaving, we will
notify you promptly. We, then, can work together
to develop strategies to help the situation.

5
Discipline Plan and Conduct
  • Our rules are
  • Respect others and yourself.
  • Use self control at all times.
  • Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat.
  • Respect the property of others.
  • Work quietly to allow the teachers to teach and
    to allow others to learn.
  • Remember rules inside and outside of class!

6
Communication
  • Communication is the key to making sure your
childs needs are met. Please contact us if you
would like to discuss celebrations or concerns.
The best way to contact us is either through
e-mail or through calling our voice mail.
Please have voice mail calls in by 200 p.m. to
ensure that your message is received. You will
receive our e-mail and voice message number in
    your class packet.

7
Grades
  • We give class work grades, quizzes, and tests.
You will be notified before a test is given.

8
Homework
  • We will be giving daily homework assignments.
Third grade gives an average of 30 to 45 minutes
of homework each night. The assignments will
usually consist of practicing a skill that has
been covered in class. In certain instances,
incomplete class work will be sent home to be
finished. Homework not turned in or forgotten at
home will be completed during recess. Children
will be responsible for writing assignments on
the daily assignment sheet. Each homework
assignment will be reviewed with the students
    before they take it home.

9
Work Packets
  • Work packets will be sent home on Tuesdays in the
Wolf Book with grades that your child has made
for that week. Please sign the packet of papers
and return it the next morning. We use these
papers to help us in evaluating your childs
    progress.
