Title: MSV Presentation
1MSV Presentation
2MSV Next Generation Satellite System
- MSV is developing a satellite and terrestrial
hybrid integrated network which includes two
Satellite Based Networks (SBN) over North America
and an Ancillary Terrestrial Component (ATC) - Shared satellite and ATC L band spectrum. MSV
has access to over 30 MHz of wireless spectrum
nationwide in the US and Canada - Satellite provides ubiquitous coverage over North
America. - ATC is a network of terrestrial cell towers
providing high capacity. - MSV intends to partner with third parties and
deploy the top 50 markets initially and plans to
utilize next generation air interface
technologies allowing for high capacity
fixed/portable and mobile broadband throughput
and an all IP core enabling cost-effective
provisioning of advanced multimedia applications - Enables form factors, similar to current cellular
phones, to communicate anywhere over CONUS
either through terrestrial cell towers or
satellite.

7MSAT-G2 Interoperability
- The MSAT-G2 radio operates with interfaces that
enable interconnectivity to a variety of
communication modes (LMR, Cellular etc). - Mobile repeater products allow the use of the
MSAT PTT service via handheld radio - Interoperability modules allow MSAT users to
communicate with LMR, iDEN, and PCS users within
the same Talk Group.

11Next Gen Vs. Current Gen Satellite
12Key Satellite Technical Discriminators
- The most powerful MSS satellite ever built
- Designed for compatibility with ATC technology
- Operates with handheld wireless devices
- Highly reliable design
- Significant bus and payload flight heritage from
previous Boeing programs - Beamforming moved to the ground ground-based
beamformer (GBBF) will form hundreds of beams.
Flexibility in air interface. - 22 meter reflector based on previously qualified
12 meter design - Highly flexible design
- GBBF and onboard channelizer provide rapid
reconfiguration of coverage and reallocation of
bandwidth - In emergencies all the satellite bandwidth can be
reallocated to one beam servicing the emergency
area
13MSV Hybrid Network Architecture
14MSV Spot Beam Coverage
About 500 beams cover the total service area.
Approximately 200 beams cover the US and the
major population centers of Canada.
0.35 spot beam diameter
15Redundant Platform for Emergencies
- If Terrestrial infrastructure is unavailable
and during periods of localized CMRS/PSTN
congestion - Multiple, geographically dispersed satellite GWs
- Satellite capacity can be dynamically allocated
to a specific area - Priority service via satellite (government use)
can provide CONUS-wide communications with
WPS-like features
- Key Benefits of Integrated Service
- 24x7 redundancy and reliable priority access
via same, standard, wireless
devices
16Satellite Emergency Response
- All available spectrum in single spot beam
- Approximately 500 simultaneous calls in a single
cell 125 miles across - Spot beam throughput 500 ? 4.8 kb/s 2.4 Mb/s
