- Ruth was a true humanitarian, who believed that
everyone should have a full belly, and a warm,
safe place to sleep - Ruth and Harvey McGee performed these services
for individuals in their own home for years, then
established operations at our current site

- Ruth and Harvey had a vision that the community
should take care of those in need and help
provide for those less fortunate - Dixie Care and Share continues to rely on the
community to meet the needs of our less fortunate
neighbors - 75 of our budget comes from community efforts

- Dixie Care and Share has been providing services
to the people for the past 28 years - We expanded our efforts and opened a 2nd Food
Bank in Hurricane 5 years ago - This has enabled many people to receive services
that could not get to St. George, ensuring less
hunger in our community
7Who Receives Food and How Much Food do they
Receive?
8Pantry Recipients
- Pantry items are available to anyone in the
Community - Pantry items are day old breads, cookies, cakes,
muffins, vegetables or other perishables, plus
items that we have in abundance - These items are collected from local stores each
day of the week and are available to our clients
5 days a week, based on their personal needs - Through using the Pantries, many families are
able to make it from paycheck to paycheck - Last year we picked up and distributed 738,448
lbs of food in our Pantries - This Community effort has kept thousands from
going to bed hungry!!!!!!

10Food Bank Recipients
- Food Bank items are only available to those who
meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines - Clients may receive one food box per month, per
household - Boxes are made up to supplement 15 meals, and are
weighed according to household size
11Families with one to two persons receive 55 lbs
of food in their box Families with three to four
persons receive 65 lbs of food in their
box Families with five or six receive 75 lbs of
food in their box A 10 lb supplemental box is
added for each 2 additional family members

13Volunteers
- Dixie Care and Share has 3 paid employees in the
St. George Food Bank, and 2 paid employees in
Hurricane - The Food Banks are basically worked by very loyal
VOLUNTEERS, who have been coming day after day
for many years

15The other workers at the St. George food bank are
shelter residents, working for fair share credit
to pay for their stay, they are awesome
workers!!!!!

also, such as. - Gas Vouchers
- Clothing Vouchers
- Greyhound Bus Tickets
- Local Bus Line tokens or passes
- Vouchers for Dr. visits at the local health
clinic - And much, much, more!!!!!

18Dixie Care and Share has been servicing the
Washington County residents for close to 30 years
and enjoying every minute of it. Nothing makes
the employees, volunteers, and residents feel
better than to know that our local families,
residents, and just those passing through have a
place to go and seek help in less fortunate
times. Washington County has always stepped up
and taken care of others, and we hope this will
continue on for the next 30 years
