6Statement of Situation
An empty lot, which is located west of MiraCosta
Colleges Community Learning Center (1831Mission
Ave. on Barnes Street), between Mission Avenue
and Dixie Street is currently an unused field
with 340,000 square feet. According to the
investigation, elderly people (over 65years old)
are 13.6 of the population in Oceanside, and 75
of them live alone. We have over 60 child care
centers, but theres only one place for the
elderly people in Oceanside to congregate.
7Proposed Solution
We propose this property to be used for the
development and construction of two buildings,
one being the elderly center and the other a
child care center with a park in between to
separate the two buildings.
8Proposed Solution (Cont.)
-
- Our short-term goal is to build a Paradise
for both, the elderly and kids. The long-term
goal is to provide an opportunity for the elderly
and kids to co-exist in a symbiotic relationship.
For example, the kids could perform plays for the
elderly regularly and the elderly could share
their wisdom to the children. The primary
objective is to have them work collaboratively in
order for both generations to learn more about
each other. -
9Proposed Solution (Cont.)
- We propose the Child care center to have a
capacity of 50 children ranging from 0 to12 years
of age. The same capacity is expected for the
Elderly Recreational Center. The elderly can use
this facility in various ways. They can read
books in the library have access to the World
Wide Web in the computer lab. Children can use
the facility targeted to them in several ways as
well. For example, they will have access to a
play room area, access to a library with
computers, a nap room. In addition, they will
have a dining room where they can eat their
lunch.

the elderly center has the exercise room.
Therefore this project needs 18 employees. - 5 Teachers
- 11 Administrators
- 2 Nurses

22Conclusion
- In conclusion, the information presented in
this proposal demonstrates the necessity of a
complex for children and the elderly. The
development of the empty lot located at west of
MiraCosta Colleges Community Learning Center
(1831Mission Ave. on Barnes Street), between
Mission Avenue and Dixie Street into a complex
with both an elderly and children would be a
beneficial investment in the community.
