A new initiative for the Rural Scotland
2- The Scottish Dental Postgraduate
Rural Training Fellowship - Quality of Life
- Quality of Learning
- Funding for this initiative from NHS Education
Scotland (NES) and the Scottish Executive has
been established for three postgraduate places
per year, - The Fellowship assists the Scottish Health Boards
in attracting dental surgeons to the rural areas,
and in providing a level of specialist dental
care which is accessible to rural patients. - Successful candidates are offered a position as a
salaried practitioner with one of the rural
Health Boards. - There is an attractive package of financial
support in travel and subsistence funding for
successful candidates, University fees and part
of the salary are also paid by NES. - Overseas graduates are funded at the basic home
student rate, but are expected to contribute to
the extent of the overseas training rate. - Full registration with the GDC is required and
overseas applicants should have completed ORE and
have indefinite leave to remain in the UK. - Fellows attend one of the Scottish Dental Schools
on a part-time basis (either one week per month
or two days per fortnight) to complete a formal
teaching programme and clinical research project.
- Distance learning is also available through
online video-conferencing and electronic library
and shared space facilities. Fellows also attend
CPD courses in their local area. - Local mentoring is arranged with senior
clinicians and the Training Adviser is available
to support and guide the Fellow throughout the
training period. - Fellows are required to complete a portfolio in
the form of a Log Diary for presentation at
completion of the Fellowship.
