Bodyguard II The fully electronic monitoring
unit provides you with all the information you
need throughout an operation and can be used with
PSS Merlin telemetry system.
Bajonett rings Enable a quick and easy assembly
and disassembly.
New
Breathing air cooler To reduce the temperature of
the inhaled air, thereby minimizing the physical
exposure / stress, the breathing air cooler can
be filled with ice or as an alternative the
re-useable alcohol cooler can be used.
CO2 Absorber The streamlined CO2 absorber ensures
a high degree of breathing comfort. Depending on
your individual needs you can choose between a
disposable or a translucent refillable cartridge.
Optimal wearing comfort The ergonomically shaped
carrying shell, the low device weight and the
improved, well padded shoulder straps and hip
belt give a higher wearing comfort.
Spring loaded breathing bag The slight positive
pressure throughout the entire breathing circuit
generated through the springs protects the wearer
from toxic ambient gases.
Anti-Vibration-Strap The Anti-Vibration-Strap
ensures a smooth transport on vehicles.
7FEATURES BENEFITS
- Wearing Comfort
- improved harness adjustable shoulder straps
- pull-forward waist belt
- position of shoulder straps
- low weight (due to material - Epoxy resin)
- ergonomical back plate
- Positioning of breathing hoses over the
shoulders - does not interfere crawling and carrying
things
- Breathing Comfort

25DEHYDRATION
What is dehydration ? Medically, it is a
condition in which the body contains an
insufficiant volume of water for normal
functioning.
1)
- Signs of dehydration ?
- Thirst
- Headache
- Loss of performance
- Low endurance
- Rapid heart rate
- Elevated body temperatures
- Extreme sleepiness
- Fainting
- Vision may dim
- Delirium

27HYDRATION
How much water is sufficiant ? This is difficult
to answer, because one needs to find the balance
between water and weight. Water loss
(examples) 1 gallon 3.785 liters - 2.5
liters / day Normal day (England) 1) - 3
gallons (11.4 liters) Hot weather 2) - 1.5
liters / hour Military operation in hot
environment 3) - 1 2.2 liters / hour Heavy
physical exertion in heat 4) Counter
measures Drink water before, during and after
your tasks. Up to 2 gallons (7.6 liters) / day
or for example 4 cups (1 to 1.2 liters) an
hour.5)

28HYDRATION
Would 2 liters be acceptable ? 4 cups (1 to 1.2
liters) per hour are recommended. That would be
between 2 to 2.5 liters for a 2 hour
operation. We can not give the answer, but we
can offer options on where to place water
containers that can be bottles or
bladders/tubes. CamelBak offers a large variety
of solutions, adaptable to our connection. On
the following pictures you will see a 3 liter
bladder worn on the chest. This is only used as
an example.

33COMPETITION CCBA - BIOPAK
BioPak 240 R
- The BioPak 240 R is an American made CCBA,
working with - the same working principle as the Dräger PSS BG
4. - It is NIOSH and EN 145 approved since May 2007.
- Modern design
- Breathing resistance similar to the PSS BG 4
- Only approved with ice cooler
- Weight and dimensions similar to the PSS BG 4
- Difficult to maintain
- No Rex Reducer (not necessary)
- Mask comes from Scott (AV 3000)
34COMPETITION CCBA - MSA
AirElite 4h
- The Auer AirElite 4h is a CCBA based on KO2, like
a large Oxy. - Only EN 145, but not NIOSH approval available. As
their - Strength could be considered
- Low maintenance cost
- Interesting for customers who do not intend to
use a CCBA - Weaknesses are
- High Cost of KO2 cartridges (between 923 and
1500 Euro - for two)
- Heavier than the PSS BG 4
- Operation time significantly (30 min !)shorter
than PSS BG 4 - under same condition
- Fogging of mask (Auer Advantage)
