Some Considerations

• Is there an identified need for this standard?
• Who are the stakeholders and how will they
  benefit from the standard?
• Is this an area already covered by standards
  projects within or outside of IEEE?
• Is this an area for which IEEE could provide
  special expertise?
• How will this relate to standards activities
  already underway within IEEE or outside of IEEE?
• Is there a critical mass of people with
  expertise willing to commit time and money to
  develop a standard?

Next Steps

• Given considerations, determine which standards
  areas are the ones you wish to participate in
• Determine a leader or leaders to lead the future
  working group(s)
• Determine title and scope of standard(s) to be
  developed
• Find support among colleagues who wish to
  participate in working group. E.G. if entity
  project, need at least 3 entities participating.
  If individual, should target at least 5
  participants.
• Identify one or more willing sponsors
• Complete PAR and get sponsor approval

• Submit PAR for approval through Nescom
