Title: How to Use Sakai

1
How to Use Sakai
  • Guide for Students

2
Templates
  • A template is a type of a document that enables
you to quickly edit and add information.
  • You will use a template during the Netiquette
Establishing a community part of this lesson.
  • To use a template, you simply input your
information where there are Bold faced words.

3
Template, continued
  • When you save a template, go to File, click on
Save as and then choose a file name you will
    remember.
  • In the bottom of the Save as window, be sure that
the file name is .doc and not .dot.
  • Save the file where you normally save your
    information.

4
Save a File
  • When working on a document and you need to save
your information, be sure to follow the rules set
up by the technology coordinators at the school.
  • If you save your files in the wrong place they
    may be deleted!
  • To save a file, click on File in the top left
    hand corner of the window.
  • Click on Save.
  • Choose a directory location for your file.
  • Be sure to look through and examine your
information before clicking on Save in the bottom
right hand corner of the window.
  • You have now saved your information!

5
Drop Box in Sakai
  • You use Drop Box when you want to submit work
digitally to your teacher. Essentially this
feature acts as an email with an attachment but
pulls your file up in a way that the teacher can
easily view and grade your work.
  • Check with your teacher to see when it is
appropriate to submit work via the Drop Box.

6
Forum in Sakai
  • The Forum is a powerful community tool that can
assist classroom work in ways that have rarely
been used prior to this technology.
  • The Forum allows multiple people to have a
    discussion around a single subject.
  • The Forum is being used in this lesson as a means
of getting you to add your understanding on a
particular topic and build a common understanding
    together as a learning community.

Good luck on your work!!
