  • National programme led by Department of Health
  • Increase in talking therapies for mild to
    moderate depression and anxiety disorders
    (including panic disorder, social phobias,
    obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic
    stress disorder)
  • Unprecedented national investment of 33m in
    2008/9, rising to 170m by 2011
  • Training a new national workforce to deliver NICE
    compliant psychological therapies to over 900 000
    people over the next three years
  • Collecting session by session outcome measures
    and monitoring data quality
  • Focus on supporting people back into work

IAPT in Sheffield
  • Additional investment of around 750k in 2008/9,
    rising to just under 3m by 2011- 950,000 of
    this being from NHS Sheffield
  • New workforce being trained in collaboration with
    University of Sheffield 26 in 2008/9, rising to
    72 by 2011
  • Integrated with existing services from PCT and
    PHS to make one service of around 100 full time
    workers by 2011
  • Service led by SHSC, is being delivered in
    partnership with Sheffield PCT, the Voluntary
    Sector Health and Wellbeing Consortium and the
    employment sector
  • Service started in November 2008

IAPT Achievements in first Six Months
  • 1,904 people have entered treatment by March 31st
    2009, exceeding target by 124
  • Full stepped care in place in 43 practices in
    the city, 39 have high or low intensity plus
    counselling and under 20 with only counselling
  • Integrated leadership arrangements
  • Relationship developed with Employment Sector
  • Data Quality for clinical outcome measures 95 T1
    79 T2
  • 19 people returned to work (9 vs. 2 target)
  • Developing good relationships with secondary care
    teams

Objectives for 2009/10
  • Complete coverage of GP Practices
  • Provide the facility for self referral and
    referral from other sectors
  • Improve employment outcomes for IAPT users
  • Deliver IAPT services from voluntary sector
    organisations
  • Improve access to psychological therapies for
    people from BME communities
  • Establish IAPT premises to deliver services from
  • Continue to build a skilled workforce by
    recruiting 28 IAPT trainees in 2009/10
